Dr. Mark Anthony Johnson, MD

I have been a patient of Dr. Johnson's for about 30 years. He has performed numerous laser surgeries on both my eyes for glaucoma and also performed cataract surgeries on both eyes. He has saved my vision and always provided excellent care for me. I recommend Dr. Johnson 100%

I would give a no star for Dr. Mark A. Johnson of Venice if that was a choice. He was loud, arrogant, and didn't listen to our concerns. My mother went to him because of a recommendation, boy was that a big mistake. He walked out of the exam room in the middle of our visit because we had asked him questions and wanted clarifications. He's impatient for sure. He cut us off during our questioning, and we find him uncaring and unprofessional as a doctor. Apparently he doesn't like patients asking him questions. He told my mother that she was the cause of her eyes being irritated, that "she must be doing something to them". There are better eye doctors for sure, but Dr. Mark A. Johnson of Venice is not one of them. I would definitely not recommend him to any friends or family members, and I work in the medical field alongside doctors and surgeons.

TRUELY UNETHICAL - Made significant negative references to Ohio voting for Trump, he thought opioids ought to be spread all over Tenn and Indiana (both voting for Trump), and that their children ought to be affected by the opioids. JUST UNBELIEVABLE - I gave absolutely no reason for his emotional reaction other than mentioning the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio’s problem with staff and COVID-19.

Do not question him on any procedure. He got very indignant and questioned where I lived and said see another doctor. I have been seeing him for 6 months and he just flipped out. We sat there in shock at his comments I was going to give him a good review until this happened. Would not recommend, too many good doctors out there. Read the reviews out there.

So many things wrong here it’s hard to know where to begin. Initial paperwork “required” my signing that I would pay an unknown amount “if” refraction was performed. I wrote (not without knowing amount) on form. Gal said I could not write on form and angrily gave me a new form saying I had to sign it. Informed me amount was $45. Informed her I did not know what it was and that I did not want anything extra. She informed me to tell them when they did it. It was NEVER mentioned and was the shortest eye exam I’ve ever had. Upon leaving I was charged the $45....a REAL SCAM! Also, the nurse flashed a screen and then told me I qualified for cataract surgery! Another SCAM – a 30 second test!! Most unprofessional doctor with inappropriate comments. He felt it necessary to tear down prior eye doctors – I guess to elevate himself?? ALL my prior eye exams (from supposedly incompetent doctors according to him) were FAR better - in depth and professional. Only due to insurance change did I… go to him as my regular eye doctor was not in their network. Would NOT recommend him or will not return.

Dr Johnson talks quickly and unclearly. He does not take a moment to speak directly to his patient but speaks in a monotone as he does other tasks. He talked of vitreous tears and vitreous detachment. I asked for clarification of which I had. He said vitreous detachment. And then rambled on about going out in the sun and maybe eventually getting a sunburn(?!! please, just stick to my eyes!!). He wanted to see me again in 6 weeks. Did his sunburn rambling mean that I did not have vitreous detachment and he wanted to monitor again in 6 weeks? Asking for clarification, he responded "I've told you twice, I'm not going to tell you again" and walked out of the exam room. I paid big money for that exam and have a right to be told clearly what the diagnosis is and how it should be treated. His chairside manner is disgusting!

I had cateract surgery performed by Dr. Johnson in early Jan 2019. The procedure went smoothly, and I am completely satisfied with the results. He is a real professional, and I would recommend him to anyone. Randy Richards

I was on vacation in Venice FL and experienced an eye problem. Dr. Johnson was referred by another specialist in the area. I was able to quickly get an appointment. Dr. Johnson gave me the most thorough exam I have ever received. He also explained that some of my issues were a result of other medical issues. No other Doctor had explained that before. He gave me information that I am able to share with my Doctor when I return home. I was impressed with his direct to the point explanation. I would highly recommend Dr. Johnson.
