Dr. Mark E Kilmer, PhD

I liked him. His work was good. On time. Fair. Would use him again. He came in and was respectful and kind. His report was long and in depth. He was smart enough to listen to my complaints and include them in the report.

Nice man. Fine reports. Judge and both attorneys were happy with it. My ex wasn’t thrilled but I liked it. He worked with me to push the pre forward and as a mom, i was so nervous for this report. But we were so happy. Couldn’t have worked out any better.

I wonder how well the one person that gave him a positive review knew him. He's crap.

I was very misled. Dr. Kilmer assured me of the process we would follow in the CFI Investigation and so did his forensic assistant. I should have been wary at the start - after several attempts to get his assistant on the phone I had to get my attorney to start initiating contact before we finally got a response from her to set p payment and scheduling. Dr. Kilmer not only failed to perform the second interview he said he would do, he told me with my evidence (which I supplied in larger abundance than he expected) that I would be granted sole decision making and primary custody of my older child, given the issues with her father. After the first interview and in home observation, I received no further contact nor were any of my calls or emails returned. He filed his report, OMITTING two of my character references and one of my witness's statements. The custody wound up 50/50 with joint decision making and no regulations regarding the required family therapy he claimed he would require… for my daughter and her father to attend. It's clear he did the bare minimum, forgot about the investigation, then threw together a CFI report at the last minute.

Dr. Kilmer has done two evaluations for us and both times he has shown bias, judgment, and an inability to accurately assess BOTH sides. I say this, not because we "lost," but because as a mental health provider myself, I am shocked by the lack of ethics in this man. He has been received disciplinary action by the state board of licensing in the past, so he has a history of not following the standards set by the state board. In our case, he did two reviews a few years apart. One of his reviews was totally in our favor (and recommending supervised visitation for the other parent), and the next one was completely reversed and favored the other parent (including a change in custody!). This in itself shows his incompetence in accurately and objectively assessing the situation. If he could have two such completely opposite reports of the same families in just a few years, he obviously was completely incompetent and missed something or he injected his own biases and made his decision based… on that. I do not want anyone else to experience what we have gone through, which is why I am writing this review. Luckily, in our case, we retained custody and Kilmer's report was not accepted by the court. But you might not be so lucky!

I agree with the other reviewers that Dr. Kilmer should not be trusted to participate in a decision as important as how your children are raised. Dr. Kilmer was very up front about writing reports that are biased toward mothers (so if you are the mother maybe this is a good guy for you to use to screw your ex). Dr. Kilmer will tell you to bring all of your evidence early in the investigation, but will give you no indication of what the other party is alleging. In my case there were so many accusations from the other side, it was impossible to know what evidence to bring, so he made conclusions and decisions without all of the facts. Additionally, Dr. Kilmer doesn't seem to understand the damage that parental alienation can cause and was not able to recognize symptoms of severe depression in the mother. Dr. Kilmer relies on the testing data too much and didn't spend enough time with either party to accurately assess how the testing data could be interpreted. The report that Dr. Kilmer… produced contain several blatant inaccuracies that ultimately impacted the fairness or appropriateness of his conclusions. I do think that Dr. Kilmer is a good person and wants to do the right thing, but he lacks the proper skills to conduct a fair and unbiased investigation. Dr. Kilmer's wife Melanie is his assistant and does most of the investigating which complicates the process because she makes statements and then retracts them when confronted. She like Dr. Kilmer seems to be a really good person, but ultimately her involvement in the process prevents Dr. Kilmer from being able to conduct a proper investigation. My advice is if you are working with these two, do not discuss the investigation with her. Insist on having your conversations only with Dr. Kilmer, and absolutely make sure that every email, receipt, text message, voice mail, post card, kids report cards, home videos, or whatever other things you have are brought in to Dr. Kilmer organized by category, so has he is reviewing all of the allegations your defense has been provided. I would also suggest that you bring every person that you can think of to tell Dr. Kilmer as much about your situation as possible. If you don't bring them in he won't call. In our investigation he only called 2 witnesses that were unbiased and both had damaging things to say about the other parent. Then he made conclusions based on the children's medical history without evidence from me or talking to the children's doctor. My opinion is that there are other, more qualified investigators, and if you can you should try to use one of them and avoid Dr. Kilmer.

I would have given him a 0 but you cant do that. This is not a jaded review either. This is factual based, and I had to find another examiner to tell the judge how incomplete and one sided his report was. The other examiner completed her review and found the exact opposite of Dr. Kilmer and also discredited his examination to the judge. This man is the most incomplete, ignorant, easily manipulated examiner that I have ever encountered. I needed to literally get another examiner to discredit his report completely to undo the damage this man almost did. He literally "lost" and "forgot" to include information in the report or even give the courts the information. He was late on filing his report and he also found parental alienation but never addressed the alienation besides stating that it existed in the report. He even excluded where the mother called the cops on the father when he went to pick up his children during the time of the evaluation, for no reason, and the fact that the… mother had set it up so the children watched their father while the cops frisked him. This man is easily bought and if you have the right lawyer, you too can buy yourself a PRE report in your favor. If you are an honest person and don't have anything to hide, run from this evaluater. Honesty doesn't matter and if you don't play the game then nothing you say or do will help you with him.

I would never place the fate of my children in this man's hands. Heed the warning. Irrevocable damage was caused to my family. I gave him 1 star because I couldn't choose "0". BTW: I am not "a hater".
