Dr. Mark Joseph Koris

Dr. Koris repaired my rotator cuff, about ten years ago. I was in my early sixties and committed to working out regularly, as well as practicing martial arts. I worried that I might never be able to work out again. My primary care physician, who had been a dean at BU Medical School, gave me a list of the half dozen surgeons he thought were best for shoulders. It took a few months, but I was fortunate to get an appointment with Dr. Koris. Ten years later, my training is as intense as ever, and I realized, recently, that my repaired, right shoulder had greater range than my left shoulder. I had heard from a mutual friend (retired orthopedic surgeon, Tony D.) that Dr. Koris had had health problems of his own, a couple of years after my surgery, and my own, excellent outcome led me to look him up, to see how he was doing. I am happy to see that he is doing well.

The only thing I did not like was the up date report form, I, or my primary doctor had to fill in the second time. The first time I just brought in a paper with my meds. listed. I had a local, and I was able to go home by myself, but that was a long time ago. i still think people in good condition, should be able to leave by one self, as long as the person isn't driving, (not that they couldn't). Dr. Koris doesn't write out that long rediculous form that's sent out. He is a terrific doctor.

Dr. Koris replaced my mother's elbow six years ago. Following the surgery, she developed life-threatening infection, which led to five returns to the hospital in less than a month, and then months of IV antibiotics. Dr. Koris came to see her only once following the surgery, and it took her requesting the visit. After that, he never came to see her, but delegated her care instead to his residents and fellows. Basically, he disappeared on her. If an Infectious Disease specialist hadn't stepped in, she would have died. The surgery did not resolve her prior pain. Six years later, she has had to have the entire surgery redone, because everything had worked its way loose.In a visit to Dr. Koris's office some time after the surgery, he asked if he could use her x-rays in a conference presentation, because the surgery had been so successful. Ours may have been the only case in which this kind of thing happened, but we wouldn't recommend him to change a tire.
