Dr. Mark Alon Mandelbaum, MD

We had a very difficult experience with Dr. Mandelbaum when we saw him in September, as described in my earlier review. The situation was so upsetting that it made us want to return to the VA for care instead. Today, my husband was evaluated by another neurologist—someone we found to be highly professional and thorough—and he was diagnosed with the condition we had suspected from the beginning. Dr. Mandelbaum had dismissed this possibility and declined to test for it, which was extremely frustrating for us. Based on our experience, I cannot recommend this provider. I encourage others to seek providers who take concerns seriously and are willing to explore all reasonable diagnostic options. This man is negligent, incompetent and needs his license revoked.

I wish I could leave zero stars. I’m genuinely concerned with the mental health of Dr. Mandelbaum. He is not well and is causing much more harm to his patients than good. He dismissed us just by looking over the records he read through before he even came in to the room to speak with us. He rolled his eyes at my husband while he was explaining the symptoms he has been experiencing that are progressively getting worse. 3 different Drs have told my husband that they expect he has peripheral neuropathy and had sent a referral which is why we were in his office but he gaslight us and tried to make us feel like the crazy ones for being seen. We felt like we were on trial needing to prove we weren’t guilty. I’ve never experienced such a disrespectful Dr. in my entire life. My husband ended up walking out because it was clear he would not be receiving any type of care from him. I stayed and addressed my concerns but again, he couldn’t hear me. When I brought up concerns with the front… desk they nodded in agreement and said that this was a common occurrence. I’m so sad for him, he’s clearly been through some things that are impacting his ability to give others care but he needs to get some serious help.

This is legitimately one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had with a doctor. He refused to listen and clearly doesn’t care. I tried to stay calm and explain to him how I was experiencing him and he just kept saying “I understand...” it’s really sad honestly. He gives a very “you’re guilty until proven, innocent…” vibe, except I’m not sure what I’m guilty of. He kept saying that he doesn’t treat back pain and I kept trying to tell him I wasn’t there because of back pain I was there because of what multiple doctors have told me are nervous issues that need to be figured out. I ended up having to just walk out. We filed a complaint with a patient advocate on the way out, and the entire staff team were not surprised at all. Apparently this is a normal experience for this doctor.

This Dr. Mandelbaum is by far one of the most cold, inconsiderate, arrogant people I’ve ever chose to care for me. His bedside manner is absolutely in the negative. When he speaks to me he looks everywhere but at me and is very much not interested in getting to the root of the issues I have been experiencing. I am one who gives the “ benefit of doubt” so I felt after the first visit he may have been having a bad day, but that was not the case and he’s a jerk and should not be practicing medicine. After the way I was treated I wouldn’t take my sick dog to be seen by him. After reading the reviews, which I should’ve done before hand ; I feel a little better knowing his attitude wasn’t just towards me, it’s everyone he comes in contact with. Iam not sure why he’s like this but I definitely will not be going back or recommending him to anyone at all. Sending persistent prayers for Mark, I am praying that God deals with him on a level that no one else can. Not feeling well and being… treating poorly by medical staff is most definitely not the way. It’s 2am and I’m up, in very much pain but I am sure he was paid big money to get to the root of my issues and is sleeping well at this hour. I will not allow these encounters to go unknown. This review is just the beginning. If you’re looking for Neuro.. please look further. He’s a disgrace to THE FIRST HEALTH CARE SYSTEM!!

I went to see him after I had a stroke, He is heartless and really gave the impression he did not care. He failed to order the right MRI and it did not show my stroke. He could have ordered my records and didn't. My doctor sent the records to him on my stroke and still he says I didn't have a stroke. I have lost feeling in my lip, fingers and have memory issues. His diagnostic was depression. I asked for him to look further into it and he refused. I now am stuck because insurance will not pay for the right diagnosis. Some one should pull his license to practice!

One of the worst experiences with a doctor I've ever had-left appointment in tears. After I explained my symptoms/condition he told me all of what I was feeling was impossible. Well, not true, Dr. Mandelbaum! Turns out he completely misdiagnosed my condition and prescribed me dangerous medication. I eventually found a compassionate and smart doctor to treat me as well as give me correct diagnosis. I strongly advise not going to Mandelbaum-especially if you are female. He will talk down to you. This doc is so into himself he won't even look you in the eye. My fiancee (who I took with me to the appointment) was appalled at the way he talked to me.

I was referred to Dr. Mandelbaum for a third opinion on an unknown health issue. Upon finding this out he went on a barrage of questions as to why we were wasting time with him, accusing us of just wanting a quick diagnosis. He was incredibly rude and facilitated a very heated discussion with us. He does not have a heart of service for his patients. We made a formal complaint against him with St. Luke's health system and received nothing in return. We will not be utilizing St. Luke's health system every again. I was later referred to Mayo and found some doctors who had a genuine interest and investment in helping their patients.

I was referred to him when he was in Richmond, IN for suspected seizures. First visit he told me it wasn't seizures and ordered a multitude of other tests. All of those came back normal, so he finally (6 weeks later) ordered an EEG. Lo and behold, it was seizures. He told me by walking in the exam room, literally throwing a box of medication at me and stating, "Well, you finally came in for that test and you have epilepsy." There was no real explanation of what limits I had other than I wasn't supposed to drive and that I'd be on meds for the rest of my life. There was no explanation of what type of epilepsy I had, the cause, long term prognosis, contraindications of the medication, side effects of the medication, etc. (I ended up with another doctor at the practice changing my medication because what he prescribed was all wrong for me). I got about 10 minutes total with him before he left to see another patient. Hey, at least he gave me coupons for the medication that covered a… small fraction of one month. I had to call back to see if a generic would work as my insurance wouldn't cover the name brand. When I contacted the office for assistance getting the generic script filled he was no longer employed there.

I took my wife who is stroke victim to this jerk. He is by far the worst doctor I have ever met. His bedside manner is the worst I have experienced. After 5 minutes of reviewing my wife's chart he determined she did not have a condition that she was formerly diagnosed with having by teams of experts and made light of her stroke. he belittled the both of us every time we asked a question and was only interested in getting out of the room. We waited three weeks for this appointment after getting out of the hospital and I had to take time off from work to be there which was a complete waste of our time and money. We now must go through the whole process again while my wife's health is at risk. His assistant recognized his incompetence, apologized and gave us a card to his management without us even asking. This man should not have a medical license or be employed in the field by anyone. St. Lukes should be ashamed of the service being provided to patients. This was not our first… terrible experience with their services, but it will be the last.
