Dr. Mark Thomas Matsunaga, MD

This doctor had no empathy towards my husband. He’s been through a hard and complicated situation in his life. He was a marine with a spinal cord injury and has multiple surgeries. Even thought my husband wanted to go back to a normal and active life, Dr. Matsunaga showed no empathy and treated him poorly. I’m very disappointed at how he managed this situation.

In the last two years, under the care of Dr. Matsunaga and Gabrielle, I have been able to cut back on dosage and switch to meds with less side effects, while still keeping my pain under control. This is the first time my medications have lessened instead of increased in the last decade. I have been a chronic pain patient for 10 years; regrettably the first 8 I was treated elsewhere. In the last two years, I’ve made more progress, both with my meds and my life as a whole, than I had in the previous eight years. Dr. M and Gabrielle believe in treating the whole patient, not just the pain itself. And to be clear, yes of course they are treating the pain, they don’t want their patients suffering. My point is that they don’t simply write new prescriptions and send me on my way. They ask about my other health conditions whether related to my pain or not, they check in about my mental state and encourage me to take care of myself in all ways. Dr. M believes patients should be active… participants in their care; he encourages me to be the expert on my health and research all my options, and while he’ll offer his opinion on those he wants me to confidently make decision on what is best for me. Writing that sounds so obvious that of course a patient should be and don’t that, but in my experience with other doctors, his approach is truly something special as most doctors just tell you what you need to do and don’t make time to have those detailed discussions with you. Their approach was especially amazing during the pandemic, when I assume most people were experiencing some mental lows. Gabrielle was my cheerleader, acknowledging and celebrating my efforts and courage in facing the struggles I experienced. She has always offered that kind of support and encouragement, whether during pandemic struggles or whether it’s baby step progress in weaning down medications and getting a little more physically active. Now I can’t imagine ever going anywhere else for pain management.

5 stars?????????? I saw Dr. Matsunaga today for the first time and he is hands down the best doctor I’ve ever seen!(and I’ve seen tons). He has amazing reviews and is highly recommend and I can see why. He’s genuinely caring, he actually listens to your concerns. He doesn’t push anything like most doctors do and spends time going through you’re history and treats your particular case and don’t treat you like just another patient . He is truly amazing. I left my appointment in tears of joy because I finally found a doctor who treated me as a person and not just another client. I HIGHLY recommend him! His staff is also friendly and pleasant!

My husband had been to 3 other doctors who had no idea what was wrong or just didn't care. When my husband found Dr. Matsunaga there was FINALLY someone who cared enough to take the time to give him a FULL examination and a proper diagnosis. He is on his way to a wonderful recuperation. I really liked Dr. Matsanuga. He spoke to me and made me feel very comfortable. I did not go back for my follow up due to family issues but I making a follow up appointment today. Would highly recommend this Doctor.

the biggest thing i would say is the office appt was over 1 Hour waiting...... dr Can't remember vital information about patient. very confusing!!! so when you need your meds It will be starring over again. re-explaing you symptoms and conditions To remind dr about the meds you need! I take notes and share w/ dr so I don't Get the 3rx degree about my drugs. the dr always appears Pre occupied Offer Like gee wants Too Be somewhere else and that we are beneath His social status

Dr. Matsuaga has an expansive base of knowledge to draw from when he treats you. He is not running a pill mill. I trust with my life.

I really like Dr matsunaga he is curteous and diagnosed me very quickly and accurately. He is always interested in my pain level and has never once made me feel like I am crazy or drug seeking and he does NOT overprescribe. My only problem is that unless I get one of the first visits in the morning I am destined to sit in the waiting room at least 40-60 minutes past my actual appointment time which is really a pain. Also he is only open tues,thurs, and.fri.. The medical assistants are all young and seem to know nothing when it comes to medical conditions. His nurse practitioner is really nice but she is far too generous on pain medication vs. Dr matsunaga himself so I prefer to see him.

I am a nurse and I think that Dr. Matsunaga has my best interest at heart. I never felt rushed with him and I think he runs a tight pain management office that keeps patients safe and truly feel like a partner in my own care.
