Dr. Mark Stephen Parrella, MD

Dr. Parrella saved my husband's life. He performed trauma surgery on my husband after a severe fall which split half of the pelvic bone from the top to the socket. This is very serious for someone who is 75 years old. Dr. Parrella did an excellent job of putting these bones back in place. Dr. Parrella is a trauma surgeon with much knowledge and many years of experience. He will admit that that is what he does, all day, every day! And, my husband and I have much appreciation for that!

Recovery was slow but I am able to move my arm in ways I thought I’d never be able to. Dr. Parrella is my hero!! and I am so appreciative of the wonderful results!! I was referred to Dr. Parrella by the ER due to a severe trip and fall accident. I had several compound fractures (bones sticking out through the skin) in my leg and had to have surgery. The surgery was a success, I had no complications and my bones grew back together on schedule. It was a very long recovery, but now I'm hitting the gym and training for a 5K. If I had to describe Dr. Parrella in one word, it would be "calm". Nothing seems to rattle him. You can tell he really enjoys what he does. He's very kind and soft-spoken, yet very direct about your injury. "Okay. So your leg is broken here, here and here (pointing at the x-ray and then physically on your leg) and you will need surgery and it will be done tomorrow morning. Any questions?" He looks you right in the eye and tells it like it is, which is what I loved about him. That, and the fact that he doesn't seem like a surgeon at all. He's just a regular guy. He's considerate and courteous and he runs a tight ship. I… always felt very confident while under his care. Having a broken leg is an extremely scary, frustrating, painful and hopeless experience. I was blessed to have Dr. Parrella as my surgeon. He was always a ray of light and encouragement when I had given up hope of ever walking again.

I was referred to Dr. Parrella after breaking my wrist and getting my X-rays at a local ER. I later realized that Dr. Parrella's P.A. showed me an X-ray that was not actually mine (from his phone, no less...) and pressured me to schedule surgery immediately. He told me I would have severe arthritis and deformed bone regrowth if I did not get surgery. The X-ray he showed me was a severe bone split, though the ER doctor showed me a very clean break. I told him I wanted a 2nd opinion and to please just cast me. He oddly wouldn't come back in the room after I said this and his assistant casted me (after I had to tell her what kind of cast to give me because they didn't communicate to each other) and then preceded to convince me of surgery, as well. I took my X-rays and got new ones at another orthopedic's office and saw I had a very simple, clean fracture that required no surgery. Although I never had any interaction with Dr. Parrella, the doctors working beneath him seemed inconvenienced… by my questions and only intent on prescribing surgery for everyone. And they never returned my phone call to explain when I called to complain. My advice: always get a second opinion. And maybe look into a different orthopedic office.
