Dr. Scott Weaver Spann, MD

Im a current patient of Dr. Spanns and just had a lumbar fusion surgery three weeks ago L4 and L5 along with my previous fusion at L5 S1. The surgery was great very little down time. I was up and walking once I was taking to my room from recovery. I was able to go home by noon the next day. I'm currently walking 3 miles a day and I feel great. Dr. Spann also was the surgeon on my first surgery 12 years ago these procedures were night and day.. I recommend Dr. Spann to any one needing a lumbar fusion.

I've been seeing Dr. Spann for over a decade, through two extensive back surgeries. He has always listened to my symptoms and needs, and done his best to improve my quality of life. He is responsive, and genuinely cares about improving my situation.

My husband went to see Dr Scott' Spann regarding back surgery. Dr. Spann saw a spot on my husband's hip while he was conducting his initial testing before the back surgery. As it turned out my husband had cancer. This would have gone undetected had it not been for Dr Spann. We are very grateful to Dr Spann not only for finding a spot of cancer but also for his excellent service and his wonderful bedside manner. He explains everything in great detail so that all of your questions are answered. He performed the back surgery which was very intensive 2 years later after my husband underwent radiation and chemo . He also had his kidney removed . He did a wonderful job with surgery My husband would not be alive today had it not been for Dr Spann. Heand is able to do things now that he had not been able to do for years. So he has brought my husband back to his former self.

My husband had been misdiagnosed over and over at St Davids Er. He was in constant pain down his back and legs. Finally an Mri showed them that he had Osteomylitis and Diskitis in lower back. The first surgeons surgery failed a month after surgery and my husband was put on bedrest. It was soon apparent that bedrest was not going to reattach the screws that had backed out. I called our Heart Doctor and he sent us Dr Scott Spann who immediately performed surgery. The first Doctor refused to even repair his botched surgery. It has been six weeks and my husband has not had any pain in that time. We highly recommend Dr Spann! Do not suffer with neck or leg pain!

While it's easy to be negative when you have a pain problem, it's also important ultimately to understand what is the ultimate goal I'm seeking. I wanted someone to understand my issue. Be able to accurately diagnose my issue. Plan treatment for that and skillfully carry out the plan. I completely experienced all of those needs with Dr. Spann.

Dr Spann does not listen to his patient, he looks at the MRI and says "we all have tears." I told him I can't sit for more than a couple minutes without pain and I can't lift more than 20lbs. He said "go live your life." The problem is my life consists of lifting more than 20 lbs and sitting 8+ hours in a day for work.

Best experience with a back doctor that I've ever had. I had an ongoing problem with my back that was caused by a failed surgery on my back 3 years ago. Dr. Spann identified it, put a plan in place, and correctly doing the surgery. He corrected the mistake the last doctors made, and he helped two other joints above the problem area. This procedure completely changed my life. I was in constant back pain 24/7 since the failed surgery, and my complaints fell on apathetic ears all across the nation visiting doctors. No doctor would help me. Doctor Spann looked at it, and immediately knew he could help me, and he did. From taking 2-7 hudrocodne a day to being pain free and off all pain killers I was taking before the surgery. I have a completely new life. I can sit, stand, and walk without pain, and I can once again enjoy my life and go after my goals without being afraid of what my back will feel like. He completely changed my life for the better and I'm eternally grateful. I… had a wonderful experience, and I'd recommend him to anybody looking for a solution to back problems. Dr Spann operated on me twice. In retrospect of surgeons reviewing my case, I was told several times that the first surgery did not need to be as complex and invasive as it was performed. It changed my life for ever. I also got staph infection, and he had to operate on me again weeks after the first surgery. I remember vividly the conversation I had with Dr. Spann. I asked him, if he must operate again to clean the infected area, I pleaded for him to make sure to go as deep as needed to make sure the infected area was cleaned as much as possible. 9 months later, after bi-weekly or monthly follow up visits, never looking into why the surgical incision was not healing and oozing, I was in ER on Christmas Eve. I was told I was in imminent danger of septic shock due to an untreated staph infection, and subsequently death. I laid in ER thinking that I will not last long enough to see my son open his Christmas presents. It was difficult to find a surgeon to operate on me and literally save… my life, but I got lucky and a orthopedic surgeon agreed to do an emergency surgery on me. I'm not being vindictive or looking for restitution of any sort. Just passing perhaps relevant information to someone out there. In fact, I read something that Dr. Spann wrote or was quoted himself, and I couldn't agree with him on that more, and I quote: "I believe divine intervention played a role in what happened next." To understand and empathized with people with pain and life changing problems, one is better equipped if they have been through similar experience.

I can not express how HAPPY I am that I chose to go with Dr. Scott Spann for my Spinal Fusion. I am now 3 months out and feel fabulous all due to him and his incredible team!!! I am living again!!! THANK YOU!

I came to Dr. Spann on the referral from a friend whom he performed a cervical fusion on. I suffered neck pain for almost 10 years, seen by three different doctors and not one willing to perform surgery on me. Dr. Spann said he could help my problem with surgery. My insurance company originally disallowed some of the procedures Dr. Spann was going to do. He fought for me and had a peer to peer talk with a doctor at my insurance company and they agreed to cover all the procedures. It is now one year later and I have no pain at all in my neck and wonderful range of motion. I will say that it was a tough year because the pain was not relieved right away but Dr. Spann insisted on patience and sure enough I am great today!!
