Dr. Mark Zachary Powell, MD

Amazing doctor and staff! Very helpful, professional and courteous. He loves my son as if he were his own! Awesome!!

Let me say first off that Dr. Powell is excellent. I have only complaint of him in that if you ever call the office and ask to speak with him, you will wait at least 24 hours, if not 48 to get a call back. Aside from that he could not be better -- he has great bedside manner and he has always been fantastically understanding and caring of our kids -- even visiting them in hospital. Doctors Gokey and Harder are also quite good -- we have seen them both from time-to-time when Dr. Powell hasn't been available. Now for the bad. The administrative staff and overall management of the office is poor (and that is being generous). The mood there runs hot and cold. Somedays they are cheerful, other days the front office staff are flat out rude. They are never courteous on the phone and if you are put on hold prepare to be there for 5+ minutes at a time -- and never do they apologize for the wait. If you need to speak to the on-call nurse you can count on it going to voicemail and then… your call will be returned less than 50% of time. Although, I will say when we have gotten calls back (again, no better than 50% of the time and always when one our kids comes down with a mystery illness in the middle of the night) the nurse(s) we've spoken to have been extremely helpful. The whole support team there needs training in communication and common courtesy. Heck, just a "sorry for the wait", "thank you" or "you're welcome" would negate most of my complaints. I get that much from my grocery store check out person. The bottom line, Dr. Powell keeps us coming back, but it gets more difficult each time to justify returning when you have to deal with all of the other issues associated with that office. If we ever found another doctor we felt like we could trust as much as Dr. Powell we would likely make the switch.

We chose Dr. Powell on glowing recommendations from a colleague who now pays out of pocket and drives his kids 45 min to see him (he's that good). I met him at the hospital when my first was born, and instantly knew he was a great choice. Both my kids were seriously jaundiced when born, but he was on top of things, and nipped it in the bud right away (particularly with my second when we were expecting it). He takes care of both of my kids, and he makes his patients and families feel special. He is also very knowledgeable (and up on current developments in pediatrics) and caring, and really really worth it. Then there's the extras like prescribing lidocaine cream for infants so the shots don't hurt as much, etc. Easy to get an appt to see him when kids are sick. Even the subs we've had when he's out have been good. The other doctors in his practice are also very good - we've seen them during sick child visits over the last 3 years and counting. He is also a supporter of breastfeeding.… We highly recommend him!

We chose Dr. Powell as our son's pediatrician without even meeting him. We had heard such great things about him that we decided to see him on a leap of faith. We're so glad we did! He's a great doctor with a wonderful demeanor and he really seems to care about our son.

Dr. Powell has been my daughter pediatrician since she was born. He always recognizes her when we are in non doctor environments and has always made her feel comfortable with him. He's great!
