Dr. Mark Hugh Powers, MD

We were very disappointed with Dr. Powers. He did NOT return calls, did NO reach out to family members or HELP the patient that needed help. The ONE and only time, we spoke to him, it was less than 4 minutes. The whole experience was awful. I would not recommend him to anyone. I wouldn't even give him one star.

I was admitted to Glendale Adventist Hospital under the care of Dr Powers for my severe depression and anxiety. I was having suicidal thoughts so I was placed on a 72 hour hold. I did not even see or hear from Dr Powers for a day and half so I received no new treatment and I was forced to languish in my pain in a hospital with a less than supportive nursing staff. After 3 days of being held involuntarily I had no new treatment plan and unless I stayed past the 72 hour hold till sometime after 8:00 pm (my hold was up early afternoon) he stated that I left against medical advice therefore he would not advise me, change medication or help me with what to do next (Why would I stay longer when I had received no care???) I never received additional treatment or medications to stop the thoughts of not wanting to live, but not wanting to die. I would never recommend Dr Powers. He needs to retire if he has that much lack of compassion!

My sister is currently under the supposed care of Dr Powers after he admitted her to a psychiatric hospital on a 51/50 without meeting the criteria designated by California codes, "being of harm to yourself or others" My sister was born with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome and has unmistakable symptoms of Autism Spectrum, both neurological disorders yet she is being treated as if she has a mental health disorder. The circumstance that led to the 51/50 was her verbal displeasure with the loudness of another resident at her place of residence, an assisted care facility. She was also seen slapping her own face (a sensory response common to those on Autism Spectrum) She then expressed her displeasure to the noise and the harassment of another resident knocking on her door asking for money all day. Not getting the two situations readily resolved my sister swore at one of the staff who then said, "That's it!", and called Dr Powers who whisked her away to a mental institution! In the hospital my… sister attempted to ask Dr Powers to come and talk to me, her sister on the phone. He did not respond to her request so she followed him to get his attention. Dr Powers response to my sister's attempts to get his attention was to order her given a sedative against her will via injection. This has occurred three times in three days! I was informed this is illegal to forcibly administer unless the patient is accosting someone physically or doing bodily harm to herself. This Doctor should be sued for malpractice! He also told my sister that the facility where she lives did not want her back yet. I called and checked if this was true. I was told that it was up to the Doctor to release her back to the assisted living residence and it was their assumption she would be back today. The nurse informed me the doctor decided to keep her at the hospital for another two weeks for knocking on the window of the nurses station in an attempt to get their attention for another patient who was calling out for assistance and being ignored. My sister was given another forced injection and her discharge delayed by at least another two weeks. I have place numerous calls to Dr Powers and never received a call back. I am my sister's only living relative. This is unconscionable unwarranted treatment of my sister and myself, and she has been completely misdiagnosed. Dr Powers website shows no credentials nor where he was educated, and I see a similar complaint to mine in another review.

Treated my husband for 7 weeks and he was worse after 7 weeks. I was never able to contact him to find out what was going on. I would NEVER recommond him to anyone, not even to my worse enemies

Dr. Powers saved my son's life and I am forever grateful. His staff is kind and caring. They listen and administer the best of care.
