Smart, friendly, caring, everything you want in a doctor. He has taken care of me from the day he opened his office in Maryland.

I have bee seeing Dr. Ratner for five years for the watch and wait period of my enlarged prostate. When I recently experienced urinary retention and came back to him after an emergency room trip, he was empathetic and did a full work-up. Dr. Ratner then provided me with several options, explained the pros and cons of each. He is straight forward and to the point. I appreciated his frankness and advice.

never again very RUDE AND OBNOXIOUS DOCTOR

He might just be the meanest person I have ever spoken to. Like the other review, I was also operated on by another doctor. When I developed a bladder infection after kidney stone surgery over a weekend (this happened with all four previous kidney stone surgeries as well) he was the dr on call and refused to prescribe antibiotics. I was actually in tears telling him I knew it was an infection and since it was the weekend, I had no way to come into the office for two days. He told me to take my pain medication and deal with it. I didn't want/need any more pain pills. I needed an antibiotic. I told him previous infections had spread to my kidneys and made me very sick. He didn't seem to care at all. He actually hung up on me after he told me to take the pain pills even though I was still talking. Other doctors in the practice are not like this. I have called on weekends before. I have had kidney stones while on vacation without my prescriptions and always got help. I… didn't even want pain pills from Dr. Ratner. He never even bothered to ask me any questions. He just wasn't about to take any time to call in a prescription for me. I would suffer on my own before I ever trusted this man to come near me. He's just mean and unprofessional. *I won't have a procedure in the future if I know he is the dr on call for the next couple of nights. The nurses gave me a prescription during one visit so I could have it just in case I had a problem unexpectedly and he was on call. They didn't seem shocked at the treatment I got from him.

Recently i has a surgery done with another Urologist (Dr. Aaron) who has been my doctor for 20+ years. The evening of the surgery there was a complication and Dr. Ratner was the on call doctor. He was rude, not willing to listen to the problem and basically wanted me to call back a few hours later. Maybe he wanted me to wait until another doctor would be on call or maybe when he was done with dinner. He basically could not be bothered with my concerns. Maybe it is because I am not his patient, but this was an emergency and he blew it off until I really insisted that he deal with the issue which he finally did. But the point is a patient should not have to feel uncomfortable especially right after surgery. I would recommend to all potential patients, that you that you consider other doctors first before Dr. Ratner and at least compare them all before thinking about using this doctor. 0 out of 10 for caring about a patient, 0 out of 10 for communication. I cant comment on his… technical skills as my surgery was performed by Dr. Aaron and based on my 20+ years with Dr Aaron i can firmly say Dr. Aaron is absolutely great to talk with and knows what he is doing. I found Dr. Ratner to be an outstanding professional. He diagnosed my prostate cancer, explained the options, and recommended the best form of treatment.

Great Doctor, but the front office is rude and incompetent. I would suggest another doctor based on his staff.
