Dr. Mark Matthew Schaeper, MD

Dr. Schaeper prescribed my 23-year-old brother 20 MG Fluoxetine (Prozac) for his depression. Less than a month later after starting his prescription he committed suicide. I found the bottle by his bedside with 7 remaining pills still in the bottle. My brother was a 23-year-old college student suffering from depression and went to Dr. Schaeper for help. Like many his age and others, he did not share with his family the depths of his struggles. Instead, he went to see Dr. Schaeper. Dr. Schaeper was so negligent that he prescribed my brother 5 prescription refills without him even having to step foot back into his office. He knew the dangers of the prescription and its heightened side effect of suicidal ideation and yet he never followed up to see if and/or how the drug was doing. A good doctor would know how dangerous of a drug he was giving to a 23-year-old suffering from depression. A good doctor would have made him return 1-2 weeks for a follow-up to see if the drug was causing… suicidal ideation, especially with someone so young and already suffering from depression. Instead, he prescribed him 5 additional efills. He went to a doctor to get help for his depression and instead was given a prescription that ultimately led to his death. He was such a great young man and did not deserve the carelessness and negligence of this doctor. I write this so that Dr. Schaeper thinks twice before handing out a prescription with a Red Label warning to a young man with 5 additional refills without following up with 1-2 weeks to see how the drug was affecting them. I hope this post saves another family from experiencing the loss we have endured.

I was seen in a timely manner. He was very professional and quickly handled my medical issues!

Very vague and disconnected from patient. I didn't feel he understood my concerns at all for my situation. Love Novant but will not see this particular doctor again and would not recommend him at all.

We scheduled an unexpected appointment with Dr. Schaeper to address some intense pain my husband was experiencing in a highly sensitive place. Dr. S listened well as we described the symptoms, events leading up to our visit, and our concerns about the pain/what the examination would entail. He was not only receptive, but remained composed and acted with speed and accuracy to relieve the immediate discomfort and put us on a path to healing. Thank you so much!

Rude and obnoxious. Won't ever see again spends no time with patients talks to his staff like garbage. Would not recommend
