Dr. Mark Paul Slovenkai, MD

Eight years ago Dr. Slovenkai was the surgeon who gave my right ankle a replacement. It has worked well and is still stable. Arthritis was the cause of my ailment, and cartilege in my ankle was worn away. One year ago Dr. Slovenkai performed the ankle replacement surgery. It has worked well. His assistant at BBJI, Sheri is helpful and knowledgeable. I've had good experiences with BBJI, the high-tech "hinges" used in the ankle replacement are reliable, and keep me walking around.

I am writing to share my appreciation of Dr. Mark Slovenkai. He is the surgeon who performed the ankle replacement operation on my right ankle seven years ago, and also gave me a left ankle replacement last year in June. I have rheumatoid arthritis in my ankles and wrists. Dr. Slovenkai's operations have allowed me to keep on walking. I've walked a lot in my life. I worked as a fire lookout in Vermont on top of Bald Mountain in Westmore, Vermont, climbing up for two years (1970-1971). And I've walked a lot in cities where I've lived, and I walked a lot in India, where I conducted research as an academic. I'm still active at age 82, and love to walk my dog. Dr. Slovenkai makes accurate assesments, and clearly discusses what a patient needs, and tells you what he can do. He uses the latest methods, and I am grateful for his help in keeping me walking. I gladly recommend him to fellow patients looking for a remedy for ankle issues. The care I received from Dr. Slovenkai and his assistant… Sheri, has always been excellent, over the last seven years.

Dr. Slovenkai performed a right ankle replacement in June, 2010. He probably saved my life as I was out of options to deal with this old fix ankle, back in the 1970’s, that numerous MD’s said there was nothing they could do for the constant pain and living in a boot. It has been a life-changing experience! I am thrilled with this outcome! I could get back to my profession, on my feet a lot but learned my limitations. It’s all terrific! I have NO complaints about this Surgeon, his PA, or his office staff. I highly recommend this Surgeon and his staff! I am forever grateful for their skills, care, follow-ups, and concerns. They have earned the largest GOLD STAR you can find!

Dr. Slovenkai is upbeat, personable, and competent, respectful of my ability to understand his illustrated explanations - and willing to spend sufficient time with me when I see him for a post-surgery checkup.

This is the second operation on my ankle by Dr. solvenkai. He and his staff are the best. I would recommend them without reservation.

My experience with Dr Slovenkai and his staff was extremely positive. I had tendon transfer surgery and would highly recommend him for this. I believe he did have an associate with him during the surgery but my concern is with the outcome and it has been very good. Dr Slovenkai is very personable as well as capable.

Dr. Mark Slovenkai is profoundly the best surgical ankle doctor around. He has giving me a second chance on living my life to the fullest. It has been 10 years since my artificial ankle replacement and I could not be more happier.

Dr. Slovenkai is that rare comination in a surgeon: superbly knowledgeable and technically expert, and also warm and caring. He replaced my ankle joint four days ago, and spent fifteen or twenty minutes chatting with my husband and me late that same afternoon. And everyone else who cared for me at New England Baptist Hospital was highly competent, and also warm and funny. I wish I could give both Dr. Slovenkai and NEBH more than five stars.

All I can say about this man is he was a “no nonsense man “. My experience with his office was one of the best I have had in a long time. If you are looking for answers this is the man to see.

Patient beware. I believe that while Dr. Slovenkai was supposed to do my ankle surgery he allowed a fellow (resident) to do the repair of my ankle which turned out horribly. Not only did I not have a good experience from the surgery but his staff, particularly Sherry Martinelli, did not listen to me when I complained multiple times about my leg being extremely swollen 2 months post surgery and I had to ask multiple times before an ultrasound was performed on my leg which showed at least 3 blood clots which landed me in the emergency room. I was in terrible pain thru all of this. I went back to Dr. Slovenkai multiple times and he then suggested a second surgery on my ankle. I decided at that point to go to Lahey clinic for a second opinion and I felt much more confident with their assessment. I decided to have Lahey Clinic repair my ankle which was the BEST decision I could have made. I was told after that surgery that it was the most shredded tendon that they had ever… seen, and this is the tendon that Dr Slovenkai had repaired. My suggestion is to get a second opinion before you let Dr Slovenkai or any of his associates perform surgery on you. And if you decide to have Dr. Slovenkai perform surgery make sure you have it put in writing on the forms you sign before they take you into surgery that only he is to do the surgery otherwise you don't know who will actually work on you because when I called his surgical coordinator to question who did my surgery I was immediately told that they are a teaching hospital.. Again patient beware.
