Dr. Mark Wehrum, DO

Dr. Wehrum reviewed my ultrasounds with me, answered most of my medical questions and was honestly a bit impersonal and short, additionally there were some problematic areas that led me to file a formal complaint with EthicsPoint/Navex which is used by Advent Health. I was highly surprised that he and his staff completely discontinued wearing masks in the office (about 2 hours after Advent Health's new policy change). I understand that Advent Health made this policy change although given the nature of a high risk OB office, I would have thought the doctor especially would care to protect his high risk patients a bit more (I am aware of anther Advent Health outpatient facility who although given the policy change the staff is continuing to mask for everyone's safety). When I asked him about how to plan on protecting my newborn from Covid while in the hospital potentially around staff who may not be masked his response was that the best protection was to breastfeed my baby...and this is… problematic as he just outed himself as seeming to follow the 'breast is best' mentality, and shows his clear lack of understanding of why some people can't/choose not to breastfeed. His lack of sensitivity even after I clarified that I have a deformity and am physically unable to produce milk was very offensive. To top it off, in response to my asking, he did indicate that the little pin on his white coat was a 'flag with a thin blue line' aka a 'blue lives matter' pin. His pin lets me know that he is most likely racist (the blue lives matter movement is in direct conflict with black lives matter), he is most likely antisemetic, and I can tell where he stands politically and religiously as well. This man is in a position of power and by wearing his blue lives matter pin he is making a whole population of marginalized people (staff and patients) feel even more alienated. Overall he seems to be able to get the doctor job done but poor bedside manner, lack of awareness and need to express his personal beliefs that are completely unrelated to his job are some big problems.

He is an amazing doctor! I would absolutely recommend him and his staff. They are very nice and and answer all your questions. Being high risk pregnancy is scary but you can trust him! He has helped me with 2 babies and I am so grateful for that!
