About 1995....I fell offa a roof ...had a full calcanius fracture of the left foot and ankle damage too...I had already had damage from a previous military parachute accident ...a civilian Ortho put a “L shaped plate and 12 screws “ in that foot...my mobility was limited and painful. Dr. DeMaio was a friend....I told her about the problem...she re-operated on my foot removing the hardware about 1999...I recovered to full running mode in four months...now at 71...I still walk with ease. Great experience; great doctor

I was suffering from chronic knee pain for over 5 years. I saw more than 7 doctors in that time period, all of which had different ideas of what was wrong with me, yet none had any idea of how to fix me. I got an appointment to see Dr. DeMaio (who I had heard nothing but good things about) and after my first meeting with her she told me what my REAL problem was (chrondromalacia) and had a potential solution. She performed a patella femoral microfracture (I was given a 50/50 chance that it would work) she worked with me constantly over the next year. The microfracture did not work, so she dug and dug until she found another procedure that could help me. I am now on a waiting list for donor cartilage and an OATS procedure to try to make it so that I can exist without pain. She is an amazing doctor that cares immensely for her patients from day one until well after the surgery is over. Many doctors get you in and get you out, especially military doctors, but Dr DeMaio genuinely cares for… her patients and won't stop trying until she has you fixed.
