Dr. Martin H. Poleski

I am a new patient less than 6 months but my experience with this Doctor thus far has been anything less than amazing! I only wished there were more Doctors like him the medical field. His outstanding quality's are his experience his wisdom and his interest in his patient's what more can someone ask for? I am thrilled to have him on my team of health care professional's.

Best doctor ever

Save your time and money! Find a doctor who is willing to help you and not talk down to you. This man should retire!

Dr. Poleski was my gastroenterologist for almost a decade. I only changed doctors out of necessity, when I moved to a different area. He has always been kind, helpful, and very accessible for me as a patient. I have Crohn's disease and have seen many GI's but none as competent and attentive as Dr. Poleski. He is always kind and considerate and remembers details of me and my condition and spends time to talk with me and discuss all treatment options related to my chronic illness.

I don't trust him. I've been seeing him for a number of years now, and I am beginning to think some of his decisions are more motivated by money (or loyalty to his colleagues) rather than concern for his patients. An example would be his insistence that I drive to Durham to go to the infusion center that's affiliated with Duke rather than go to one close to home. When I asked, he implied that it was not possible in NC to go to elsewhere for an infusion. I understood this to mean it was illegal. It isn't. And I now go elsewhere. And the switch wasn't particularly well received by the good people at Duke.What's worse, my concerns weren't limited to the inconvenience of having to having to drive to durham for my treatment. It also involved the level of care. The woman who handled scheduling was incompetent and routinely messed up my appointments (which put me at risk for developing an allergy to my much needed medication), and the nurses rarely, if ever, seemed to wash their hands ---… with the worst offender, Bill, biting the finger off of one his gloves so he could feel your veins after washing your arm, but before inserting the needle. To add insult to injury he would throw a fit if you asked him to use another glove. I told all of this to Dr Poleski and asked if it was possible to have my infusion done elsewhere, and he replied "not in NC" or something to that effect. I don't know what his motivation for keeping me at Duke was --- but I'm convinced that it wasn't my best interest. All told, if I was new to the neighborhood or needed a GI for the first time, I would definitely avoid him. And I would probably even avoid Duke.
