Dr. Martin Tobias Starkman, MD

There are no words to explain Dr. Starkman. He is wonderful, very caring and he is like family to us. He is my go to for my father and has been since my father first became a patient in 2010. He takes the time to read charts, he updates with the team of doctors my father has to see, stays on top of what is going on with him, whenever he is in the hospital (and he does not know about it) he somehow always pops in and checks on him and ensures a doctor is there to check on him each day while in the hospital. He not only knows his medical field and is on top of what he does, but he truely makes a patient feel more than just a patient. He has truely been a god sent since 2010 and has stayed on top of his medical condition from day 1 and on top of his team of doctors in all departments since 2010. Even if I have a concern about a call another doctor may make regarding my father, he will check with that doctor and call me back just to reassure myself and my family. He will really be… missed the day he retires!!!! I can not say enough about him and his staff!

I have been seeing Dr. Starkman since 2009. On every visit, I have found both the doctor and his staff members to be courteous, friendly, helpful and relaxed. Honestly, I have not seen another physician whose office environment was professional and relaxed at the same time. I have found him to be most knowledgeable and supportive. I would not hesitate to recommend him to anyone.

I had been seeing Dr. Starkman for years and the only real complaint I had until recently was his less the courteous office staff. On several occasions the colored girl who is the receptionist in his office was very rude to me. Lately though Dr. Starkman just seems to be slipping a little bit. At one appointment he couldn't how much he told me to take. When I told him how much I was taking he insisted that he had not told me to take that amount but I know that he did. I would think he would have written this down in my chart but maybe he forgot to. Lately he also seems like he is always in a hurry and often he gets interrupted in the middle of an exam by his office staff and has to go take a phone call or see a pharmaceutical rep. Of course when he comes back he apologizes profusely but IMO this is just plain rude. Why can't his office staff simply take a message instead of barging into the room where he Is with a patient to tell him that "old Ms. So and So's … daughter is on the phone and says her mother is hasn't had a BM all week," or that " Mr. So and So from Pfizer is here to you"? Maybe Dr. Starkman just has too many patients and is overworked. Not sure, but I finally decided to switch to a younger Physician.

Never even seen the MD--I'm sure he's lovely. However I think a little customer service training would go a long way. Was told by office staff that answered the phone that I had "more time than they do" to work out what other doctor to go to since my case may not "be serious enough" for Dr. Starkman to take on. Sorry ladies, but healthcare is now a service industry. Might want to be a little more understanding and helpful to an 88 year old who is nearing the end of her days.

It would be close to impossible to find a more excellent,courteous,personable and intelligent professional doctor than Dr. Martin T. Starkman and his staff. My husband has been under his care for over 20+ years, and I can truly say, he is a blessing from God.

My overall experience with Dr. Starkman has been wonderful. He is knowledgeable, kind, and affiable. I would receommend him as a nephrologist to anyone.
