Dr. Mary Beth Mcateer, MD

After having cataract surgery with Dr. McAteer I was extremely disappointed in both the outcome and how she handled my follow up questions. Any questions I had especially about with getting blinded at night while driving becasue of a spray from on coming headlights was met as a personal affront. She doesn't answer questions or expalin anything. I'm sorry my retinologist recommended her. I can't really drive at night and she wasn't concerned at all. So if you want a doctor that can't or won't answer questions and isn't concerned with a poor outcome then you should see her.

She one of the nicest and efficient doctors. She always greets you with a smile. I just love her.

She is too rushed when examining you - it is a though she is trying to cram as many appointments into the day. She also missed an issue with my wife that was caught by another doctor.

This is not to discredit Dr. McAteer or attempt to dissuade you from using her services. She is, in fact, an experienced ophthalmologist with an extensive track record of successful cataract procedures. She is, however, imperfect, like all of us and can make mistakes. Sadly, she made mistakes when she performed cataract surgeries on both of my wife’s eyes. While most see significantly better after cataract surgery, my wife’s vision deteriorated to the point where she could no longer drive at night and could no longer read. The latter was especially disheartening since my wife, a speed reader, absolutely loved her books. On a follow-up appointment when Dr. McAteer was absent for some reason, one of her partners examined my wife’s eyes and said something like, and I paraphrase, “Oh dear!” That was as close to a confession as we got. My wife just completed successful lasik surgery, performed by another physician who also said something equivalent to an “oh dear!” when he… first examined my wife’s eyes. We are not litigious people and we know that people make mistakes, even doctors. On that note, my wife and I, in separate conversations, spoke with Dr. McAteer beforehand and suggested she pay the cost of the lasik procedures since they were necessitated by the unsuccessful outcome of her surgeries. That seemed only fair. She refused and gave each of us, in separate conversations, a lengthy but highly technical explanation of what happened, which neither of us was trained to understand. I suppose that all professionals, especially physicians, do not want to open themselves up to litigation so they prefer not admit they made a mistake. Dr. McAteer did come close to an admission when she said she would have done the lasik correction herself, had we simply asked. My response was simple: “Would you give the keys back to someone who just wrecked your car?”

I had Lasik with Dr. Mcateer. I am 56 years old so I was very nervous about having this procedure. Dr. Mcateer put all my fears to rest. She took time to explain the entire process and what I could expect, including the pros and cons for my age. Each time I had an appointment with her, she was very patient and answered all my questions. If you are thinking about Lasik, look no further than Dr. Macteer. I consulted after doctors prior to my procedure, and she was truly the best. I highly recommend her for Lasik.

I think Dr. MacAteer is an amazing and engaging physician.

Dr. McAteer is a total professional. I had cataract surgery from her and she was 100% the best doctor for anything I have had done. I appreciate this wonderful lady for giving me excellent sight, courtesy, and a very caring attitude.

was my ophthalmologist for more than 25 years, and I respect her professionalism and knowledge.The practice is terribly run. Each time of the last three I went, I waited well over an hour, one time over 90 mins, watching patients who arrived after me go in, be dealt with, and depart as I sat there. Fed up, I left. Would never go back and could not recommend her because of this important deficiency.
