Dr. Mary Ann E Michelis, MD

I switched to this Dr based on a recommendation and quickly realized my previous allergist for my young daughter was so much better. My 5 year old had to take her blood test three times(!!). The doctor herself did not spend too much time understanding the issue and although I wanted a skin test done she did a blood test and left me a voice mail on the results saying everything is fine - no details. I got huge bills but no service of a standard expectedly of Hackensack. Avoid this facility.

I was referred to this physician by an allergist who didn’t know how to handle my complex autoimmune issues. I was looking forward to the appointment, truly believing that I would get real help. Dr. Michaelis was rude and didn’t listen to me. When I looked at my medical record after the appointment, she wrote that my mother has dementia: I didn’t even say that! My mother does not have dementia. She told me I didn’t meet the criteria for systemic lupus, and questioned my diagnosis of systemic lupus (dx by a rheumatologist in 2017, responds to treatment) and repeatedly asked me if it was discoid because I don’t have it in my vital organs. You can have systemic lupus that is not in your vital organs, which she seemed to be unaware of. I was fortunate in that they found my SLE at an early stage, before it went to my vital organs. I felt as though I had to prove my diagnosis to her. She was rude, but worse than that, she didn’t listen to me. She also wanted me to undergo a celiac… disease genetic test (dx in 2010 by a gastroenterologist). What a waste of a test, as I have been on a gluten free diet for years and respond to treatment and already have a diagnosis. When I told her about my rashes and full body systemic reactions, how they only respond to antihistamines and quercetin, I was blown off as my mcas blood work came back negative. My chronic urticaria test also came back negative. She disregarded the fact that often mcas tests do come back negative, and the fact that I also have hyperadrenergic pots, a common comorbidity with mcas. I am currently seeing another allergist, was genuinely listened to, and was put on oral cromolyn sodium. I am able to function and am able to live a basically normal life, get off some of my antihistamines, and my body is essentially stabilized. I will say, her office staff are incredibly kind and caring. I wouldn’t recommend this physician.

She is not a nice person, terrible bedside manner, rude, inconsiderate and condescending! If you question anything she says or want to understand - she will rip your head off. If she doesn't like your response, she rolls her eyes and makes faces, rude rude rude!!! Only giving 2 stars because the staff is probably the kindest, most caring group of people I've met, its a shame they all work for this arrogant woman.

The only person I trust with my health. She's so intelligent, thorough and top doctor in her field. I would recommend her to everyone.

Compassionate, brilliant, amazing diagnostician!!!!

Overall very poor rating. According to her staff, she schedules at least two appointments at same time. My wait was at least 2 hours on ALL occasions.She becomes grumpy during the exam.

I highly recommend Dr. Michelis to anyone with any allergy, immunology or immune system deficiencies or disorders.She is a compassionate and caring and brilliant physicanA+++++ all the way

Dr. Michelis is in a league all her own. Phenomenal bedside manner--spends a long time with each patient--med schools just don't make people like her very often!
