Dr. Matthew Ryan Bessom, MD

I was very impressed with Dr. Bessom. Since I was a new patient, he asked a lot of questions about my health history. It was obvious that he had in-depth medical knowledge and easily established rapport. He performed a physical and addressed some abdominal pain I was having. I highly recommend Dr. Bessom.

After going along with my husband to visit another dr and getting ignored, I decided to try Dr Bessom. I thought he was fabulous. He asked lots of questions and was a great listener. He spent lots of time with me and I never felt rushed. I feel totally comfortable trusting my medical care to him.

Instead of paying attention to me, Dr. Bessom spent the entire appointment staring at his computer and checking off boxes. Also, he seemed rushed, and the entire office was chaotic with people running here and there. Not recommended.

Dr. Bessom is an excellent doctor who has a great bed side manner. I trust his advice.

Dr. Bessom made scary recommendations that demonstrated his lack of understanding of managing common disorders, and he second-guessed a specialist.

I'm shocked about the other reviews on this site. I though Dr. Bessom was very knowledgeable and caring. He spent a great deal of time reviewing my complaints and medications. We discussed options for treatment. He was very thorough and scheduled prompt followup. I would definitely see him again and refer my family and friends to him.

I left his office in tears because his unwillingness to address my concerns. SHOCKED!!!!

I have extensive medical history including chronic acute neck pain that has been difficult to diagnose, treat or find adequate pain Gypsy Owen. I am new to area and asked for pain management referral. He said he couldn't help me with that but could assist with my blood pressure and thyroid issues. Second visit he repeated this same message. He sent certified letter to my home refusing me further care. I called his office, personnel stated he'd cancelled impending third visit stating I wouldn't accept his advice for referral to neurologist. I indicated to him my extensive number of years seeing many specialists including neurologists, neurosurgeons, alternative, physical therapy regimes etc etc. My impression was that he'd be willing to treat the stuff he knew about but couldn't be bothered to assist me in providing the real help I needed. I have never been to a pain clinic. By the way, HE NEVER RECOMMENDED A NEUROLOGIST! I later attempted first visit with another Summit internal… medicine physician and was refused when personnel said she couldn't schedule me as my chart indicated I was non-complint. I WAS LIVID! I've subsequently started all my care with UT system and just seen my first pain clinic doctor there. He was excellent. By the way, I am also an RN and know good doctors. My impression of Dr Bessom was that he would help with the matters of which he knew but couldn't even advocate for me to assist in my pain issues.

He was very judgemental about the medicine his predecessor had been giving me for years that helped. It was mentioned each of the 3 visits I had with him. One other family member that saw him said he googled for info because he didn't know what it was plus allowed bronchitis to turn to plurisea with no rx or cough medicine when OTC wasn't working.
