Dr. Matthew Kirk Eastman, DO

I broke my wrist snowboarding at Brighton and went in to have it properly splinted/X-rayed, ect. He came in and right away said let me see your arm and I lifted it with my splint they had made me at the resort. He very rudely said well I need to see it out of the splint almost like he was angry for no reason. So I myself quickly unwrapped my arm. He looked at my arm for literally two seconds and then said you need to go the ER. I cant help you you at all with this. I proceed to re-wrap my arm BY MYSELF while we backs away and prepares to be done. He then looks to my wife to help rewrap the arm and rudely criticized the way she was doing it! Aren’t you the doctor?!?!?! It was literally mind blowing to me and my wife how rude and disrespectful this man is. I was not shy in letting him know how unhappy I was with his treatment of my wife and I and asked for a refund of my copay (I’ve never once done this is my life) The Altaview hospital was Staff and doctors were extremely helpful… and X-rayed to find it was a clean radial break and simple splint. Something the instacare and Dr. Eastman has the ability to do. The Doctor at Altaview was amazed he refused us any help for the break and didn’t attempt to wrap or give me any assistance at all. I’ve never experienced a doctor with such awful manners and lack of professionalism. (I’ve had many trips to ER and instacare for beaks as I snowboard/skateboard a lot) I wouldn’t recommend this doctor to any one and think he deserves to be looked at be looked at closer by his superiors. If I could give him no stars, I would. I’ll be calling/going in to speak with management about this experience. I don’t want this man to ever treat anyone the way he did to us again.

My only negative review for a doctor - ever. I usually have a high regard for the medical profession. "Dr." Eastman was in the room for probably less than a minute -- maybe two. He gave the quickest throat peek in history, and then put a stethoscope over my back - over my shirt. The same week, my wife had been diagnosed (with a real - well regarded doctor that thought antibiotics was appropriate) with bronchitis and sinusitis. Although my pain and symptoms were identical, he took him about 30 seconds to decide it was different (viral) -- therefore, no antibiotics. When I mentioned my wife's symptoms and how antibiotics quickly helped her, he responded "you can't force me to give antibiotics." He said he's rated on the antibiotics he prescribes. It seems he's afraid or can't prescribe antibiotics. I'm sure he made up his mind before he walked into the room and wasn't interested in what I had to say. My wife is a pharmacist and I've worked in an Army Reserve hospital.… That doesn't make me an expert, but we are both aware of antibiotic concerns. In fact, it's been a few years since I've taken antibiotics. Whether my issue was virus or bacterial, I don't think the doctor really knew. Eastman pretends to know what he's doing, but he really doesn't. Nevermind that I waited in the doctor's room for over 1/2 hour before he showed up for his 60 seconds, and I had waited over an hour in the waiting room before that. So, identical symptoms and pain. My wife is recovering after her visit to a real doctor. I made the mistake of finding this doctor at an InstaCare. My bad. I go overseas in a couple weeks. I'm afraid that I'll be taking this awful illness with me.

Rude, argumentative, dismissive

I waited for half hour to see him and he spent 30 seconds in my room. I felt completely shut down when I voiced my concerns and reason for being seen. He did a half assed exam of my lungs, throat and ears and said I have the flu. No further questions about my 5 family members I mentioned had recently been diagnosed with an unusual bacterial pneumonia. Yes he is an instadoc but not an Insta”care” doc

This was the worst experience we have ever had with a doctor. I can’t believe I have to give him one star to write a review, if I could do a negative star I would. I went with my husband to the Draper Instant Care because he was having incredible pain in his shoulder, arm and back. He is terminally ill with Liver disease and suffers with a lot of pain, but this pain was more intense, he had even tried the pain medication he had taken after liver surgery, but it did little good. This happened late Friday afternoon. He has home palliative care and the nurse practitioner told us to go to instant care because it would be faster than if she ordered any tests. When Dr. Eastman came into the exam room, before he even examined my husband, he had decided to give us an order for physical therapy based only on the things the triage nurse had written on the chart. We ask him to please do an x-ray to see if there was anything else that could be causing the pain. He refused to do the x-ray… and gave a lame attempt at examining the arm and then ask about our Primary Care Physician. We explained that because of the liver disease we had many doctors we saw regularly. He then spent several minutes chastising us for not having a Primary care who, he said, should be taking care of this problem. At the time I was so rattled by his abrasive bedside manner that I didn’t even think to indicate that the palliative care team is his Primary Care. Dr. (and I really hesitate to call him Dr.) Eastman is arrogant and condescending and made us feel that we were wasting his time. After the visit to Instant Care, we got an appointment with an orthopedic surgeon but had to wait about a week (a week of intense pain). He took an x-ray and found 2 bone spurs, one of them was very large in the rotator cuff that rub together with motion. He agreed with us that an x-ray should have been taken at the instant care and that any doctor should have been able to see the cause of the pain. Physical Therapy at this point would only have aggravated the condition. If my husband was in better health he would require surgery, but instead the orthopedic surgeon gave an injection of cortisone to relieve the pain which did gave much needed relief. Money is extremely tight due to medical bills and I feel so angry that we had to pay $80.00 out of pocket for absolutely no medical care. We will never go to the Draper Instant Care if Mathew Eastman is the doctor we would see. I will say that we have had good experiences at the Draper location with other Doctors.

The care received by Dr. Eastman at the Draper Urgent care was atrocious. This man should not have the ability to see patients. He should be stripped of his license and never allowed to practice medicine again. He's arrogant, profoundly uneducated, and completely unhelpful. Looking further into to his history, there's no wonder why after 19 years he's still taking odd shifts at an Urgent Care facility. He's clearly such a poor physician that no one will keep him on staff as a PCP.

I have never left a negative review for a doctor before today. My husband is a doctor, so I do not do this lightly but our experience today was so sub par I felt it warranted a response. We saw Dr Eastman at the instacare in Draper. I brought my 15yo daughter in with a sprained ankle. It was x-rayed just to make sure it wasn’t broken. When Dr Eastman came in to examine her he grabbed her ankle hard and she flinched and teared up and he said “don’t be a wuss”. What an unprofessional and crass thing to say to a 15 year old girl. He never once asked how she got hurt. Just poked at her ankle then sent for an x-ray. When he came back in and confirmed that is wasn’t broken he said to go home and “google home remedies for an ankle sprain” and “if it hurts don’t do it but if it doesn’t hurt go ahead”. Oh really. Thanks for expertise doctor. I can’t believe I just paid for a doctor to tell me to go home and “google it”. He obviously couldn’t not have cared less. My daughter left feeling stupid… and embarrassed.

Saw this individual at the Draper instacare. I won't write much because the previous reviews are almost exact replicas of my experience. He literally had not even shut the door from entering the room before he told me that there was nothing that he could do for me. He was rude and arrogant. When I expressed my displeasure after waiting for an hour and paying to be seen and now he was refusing to even look at me he said, " well, I guess I can look at you." He then looked in my ears and listened to my lungs and told me that everything was "great." (Just like a previous review.) I've never dealt with a doctor that had such bad bedside manners. Why did he choose to go into the medical profession if he doesn't want to treat patients but would instead make them feel as if they had committed some atrocity for coming into the Instacare. I will never again visit this Instacare again unless I call in advance and make sure that Mr. Eastman is not there.

He takes the time to listen to you and is very helpful.

We saw Dr. Eastman at an Instacare location and had a terrible experience. He was rude, arrogant, unkind, and dismissive. My son had a horrible cut on his hand and he did a terrible job stitching it. It was very deep and I asked if two layers were necessary, and he said no. I was trying to keep the mood light to help my son- so my son and I were guessing how many stitches he would get. Dr. Eastman rudely laughed at our guesses and said, "I am the doctor and will put in the amount of stitches that I want to." The whole experience was awful and very disappointing. We went to a plastic surgeon a few days later for a second opinion, and he said he would have definitely done two layers of stitches, and that the stitching job was not done very well. We showed before and after pictures to another doctor and he said, "are you kidding me? That stitching job looks awful!" I can't believe that someone who treats others so terribly is employed at an Instacare and hired to provide care for those in… an immediate state of need- he could care less. I honestly wouldn't even give him one star, but there isn't a lower option on this survey.
