Dr. Matthew Ferrara, PhD

Wow, the response from “Oct 8th, 2022” demonstrates a total lack of compassion and empathy, and is hostile towards the very people they should be helping. If they were truly trained by Dr. Ferrara then they must be a reflection of him and his teachings. Ferrara’s whole SO treatment philosophy, as demonstrated through his books, is a complete circus: very paternalistic, trite, and uninspiring. He presents the most basic and unoriginal psychological insights as if they are revolutionary in some way. The core of his material is to reinforce guilt and shame in SOs, but he disguises it as encouragement and compassion in way that is very backhanded. He does not take a holistic approach with how he “treats” SOs, but rather sees them as just a problem to be managed. It’s not for the benefit of SOs, it’s so he and the providers can pat themselves on the back and make everyone else believe they are doing good for the world. It’s just a money racket, nothing more. Dr. Ferrara does not have a SO’s… best interests at heart.

I have known this man for thirty years. Professionally trained by him, been in his home and still speak with him from time to time. I have noted some poor reviews here on him and have to chuckle. Clearly what needs to be understood is he is an expert on working with sex offenders. One individual complaining about his knowledge and another complaining about the cost of a sec offender treatment book? Hmm. Quite telling and typical for that group. I mean real telling and typical. There are multiple states, especially Texas, where children, your mom or sister, your grandmother, your son or grandson, are not victims of sexual violence due to this man's work. People who will never know that they were safe. He is ridiculously intelligent, highly empathetic and laser focused. Come on you silly offenders. Just admit you got smoked by a man that doesn't play with men/women who hurt others on a level that is damaging life long.

Dr. Ferrara was very thorough with our appointment. He made me feel very comfortable and did not seem to have any pre-conceived ideas about me, or my situation. I felt comfortable speaking very openly and honestly with him. I highly recommend him.

It was obvious he had other things on his mind, also obvious was the fact he already had his mind made up before we walked into the room. Was not a good first impression. Maybe it is time for him to retire.

I really think he doesn't know what he is doing. He just believes the state of Texas.
