Dr. Matthew David Heller, MD

My first visit with Dr. Heller was very good. He was so nice and kind and he made me feel very comfortable. He listened to me and seemed like he really cared and wanted to help me. It was nice to go to a doctor who wants to help you. He is what you call a REAL Doctor....He asked me to call back in one week instead of the normal two weeks. He called me back in less than two hours. He recommended what I should do and I will be going back to see him. I would recommend him to anyone.

Dr Heller was great, put me at ease.He explained my condition and told me what he felt was the best course of treatment. He told me specifically where to look on line for more information and even wrote it down for me. He reassured me that we could tackle this illness and felt we had a really good chance of defeating it. I left the office feeling relieved and informed. WHen I called with a concern , he got back to me in under 2 hours :-O that has never happend to me before ! I would reccomend him highly to anyone in need of a Rheumatologist.

I am a health care professional myself and make a point to educate myself about my disease and treatments. I haven't felt that this doctor has partnered well with me or spent adequate time explaining why he has chosen a treatment option. He is difficult to reach by phone and has taken up to eight hours to get back to me. He also orders extensive tests without explanation of what he is looking for or explanation of results and what they mean.

Yes, I fully agree with the Nov. '10 rated comment. He speaks very fast, will not listen to you, gets aggitated if you ask questions. That's if you can get a word in.

Dr. Heller was recommended to me because I was experiencing extreme joint pain and very low platelet count. The first appointment I had with him, I waited over an HOUR just to see him. I made a comment to the nurse that I could not wait any longer for him as I had a babysitter with my child at home. He then rushed in ten minutes later and was rude and seemed bothered I didn't have all the time in the world to dilly dally around waiting for him. He spoke very quickly and rushed, didn't explain too much to me. I had to get lab work done, but for some reason they only do your labs at his office if you have certain insurance?? Strange. My follow up appointment after having my labs done was similar in the first experience. I had to wait almost an hour to see him and it was very rushed. He is thorough, but he speaks so quickly and don't you dare stop him to ask questions or interrupt him, because he will become very agitated. The front desk staff can be rude. I expressed to them that at the… time I was out of work after just having a baby and my co-pay was almost $100 - I asked if I could pay half now and half later on that week. They were so dismissive to me and could not even show an ounce of sympathy. Needless to say, I do not go to that office anymore because of the interactions I've had with the staff and I do not agree with having to pay that much money just to be rushed out the door after waiting so long each time. I also did not like my treatment plan and he seemed upset that I was even questioning him.
