Dr. McAndrews was my dad’s final doctor at the hospital where he died. We knew the end was coming as my dad had liver disease for years prior. Dr McAndrew was beyond my hopes for a care provider for my dad’s last days. I generally don’t have the greatest view of physicians, especially in the hospital. But Dr. M was kind, empathetic, and specifically mentioned wanting to preserve my dad’s dignity. He told us he had prior in depth experience in both hospice care and the disease that took our dad. He was very knowledgeable but present and down to earth. Unlike a lot of care providers, he never seemed to be in a hurry when we were asking questions and getting caught up on my dad’s situation. I still remember how he would pause and wait a bit to make sure we were finished before leaving our conversation. The horror of what we were there for was cushioned so much by the entire staff on duty there. Dr McAndrews specifically brought our family a lot of peace. I hope he reads this and knows how… thankful we are!

Dr. McAndrew has been the hospitalist at CPMCs 6th floor, the liver floor for about 3-4 years. He has been taking care of one of my elderly neighbors for whom I serve as healthcare proxy. I have worked in public health and primary care for almost 30 years. Dr. McAndrew is an outstanding physician, very much in the old-school way of talking to patients, to family members, giving them realistic expectations, and ensuring great care in discharge planning. And, a good sign in any hospital unit is when the nurses are happy to have you around. He has taken care of my neighbor, 6 times in 2 years and has made each admission and discharge much easier than it might otherwise have been.
