Dr. Matthew Jon Nelsen, MD

Inability to respond in a timely manner to emergency situations either through St Vincent Patient Portal or by phone. Seems to be good with just providing annual physicals.

I had several issues while being treated. All of them he called stress. Finally he told me I needed to see a psychiatrist. I went and she was awesome. I spoke w/ her two visits and she told me I needed to see a doctor but not Dr. Nelsen. I got a blood test done. First visit. I had very high calcium and was scheduled for surgery w/ 2 months. I had Hyperparathyroid disorder. Dr. N called it stress and I swear it nearly killed me yet he never ran a blood test in 6 years. Horroble experience ! Leave any doctor who won’t give a blood test. I believed him because he was a doctor. He acted like I was just drug seeking.

This Doctor seems to be unaware of what modern medicine is. He is horrible at communicating, and the office is so incompetent that I now have $1000 out of network bill for bad referrals being made. The staff are liars and claim no negligence. I am not only leaving this doctor, I will be leaving the Ascension network.

He is a good listener. Never hurries me along . Very helpful!! I wouldn’t see anyone else ??

The only issue I have with this caring physician is that he seems too embarrassed about doing a GYN exam. Wants to refer me to GYN/Urology!

Very thorough Doctor. Listens to what you have to say and answers all questions in earnest.

I will never return to this physician was recommended, seems to be disconnected with medicine overall.

He was diligent with my husband and ordered all kinds of unnecessary vaccinations and tests and did a comprehensive exam. I asked for blood tests and he just looked at me and didn't order any. No comprehensive exam was done on me. Perhaps he favors treating men over women? I'm currently researching new doctors that may actually care and follow up and treat all patients the same and actually may give women the courtesy of perhaps since they live in their body, they may have a clue!

Spends time with each member of our family to explain diagnosis and some choices of how to treat. He is always very nice and helpful. We have followed him to several locations and have always been pleased with our visits with Dr. Nelsen. He does have a very quiet and more serious personality, but once you get him to talking he warms up and is really a very caring and personable doctor.

Gave this doctor several chances...Would walk on broken glass before returning. Seems unsure and unable to make a decision. No personality at all, just seemed like he wanted me to treat myself instead of being the doctor.
