Dr. Matthew Thomas Riordan, MD

Dr. Matthew T. Riordan was born in 1961 at St. Michael’s Hospital here in Stevens Point. His father, Dr. John Riordan, worked in Stevens Point as an Obstetrician-Gynecologist until his death in 1973. Dr. Riordan’s mother, a registered nurse, community volunteer and later businesswoman, raised her five children essentially by herself. Her success and drive was a great influence on Matt. He attended St. Stanislaus School, Washington School, P.J. Jacobs, and Pacelli High School. Dr. Riordan attended college in St. Paul, MN at what is now the University of St. Thomas. He then enrolled in The Medical College of WI (Marquette University) and graduated with his medical degree in 1987. Dr. Matt Riordan continued training at Washington University in St. Louis, studying Orthopaedic Surgery from 1987 to 1992. This five year period of intense surgical education included rotations through various hospitals and clinics, including the 1200-bed Barnes Hospital, St. Louis Regional Medical Center, …St. Louis Shriners Hospital, St. Louis VA Medical Center, Jewish Hospital, and St. Louis Children’s Hospital. The wide array of hospital and clinic settings gave Dr. Riordan exposure to all varieties of injured and ill persons, including; celebrities, professional athletes, veterans, the homeless, children, patients from Central United States and Central America, as well as typical Midwesterners. Dr. Riordan served on the medical team that cared for the St. Louis professional football, baseball, and hockey teams as well as many area colleges and high schools. Matt Riordan, M.D. began practice in Stevens Point in 1992. He chose to return to the independent practice setting rather than joining a corporate healthcare system for several reasons. In his current practice, patients are empowered. The concerns of the corporation are never placed before patient’s needs. When patients are visiting with Klasinski Clinic doctors, they are actually talking with the clinic’s owners. Matt married Paula Klasinski, daughter of Dr. C.A. Klasinski, in 1983. They have five children, Logan, Alex, Luke, Austin, and Natalie.
