Administrative Deception and Refusal of Care at NYEE Avoid this specialist office. I have a complex, longstanding history of cholesteatoma and a formal ENT referral from my ENT specialist. I called to make an appointment with Dr. Wanna. The appointment was successfully scheduled and appeared in MyChart, but was later canceled directly by Dr. Wanna’s secretary, without advance notice or any reasonable explanation. I was simply told to return to my previous doctor or go to NYU. I then tried to make an appointment with Dr. Cosetti, but was repeatedly blocked by multiple staff members in the same office. In order to obtain a normal specialist appointment, I eventually succeeded in scheduling an appointment with Dr. Cosetti through another hospital phone channel. The appointment appeared in MyChart, and my insurance had approved it. About two weeks later, the office discovered the appointment and canceled it. Most shocking of all, I was also told by the office that Dr. Cosetti and Dr. Wanna… had jointly “reviewed your records” and decided not to see me, and was told to see an outside doctor who had been trained by Dr. Wanna and Dr. Cosetti. But I had never seen either doctor and had never had any opportunity for a consultation with them. If this was a medical decision personally made by the two doctors, I should have been given a clear medical reason. If it was not, then why could office staff use the doctors’ names to make such a decision? More importantly, I had a formal ENT referral, had followed the appointment process, and had an appointment that was successfully entered into MyChart and approved by insurance. I therefore filed a formal complaint with NYEE Patient Relations and specifically asked: If I had a formal ENT referral, why was I still unable to see these two otology specialists? Who actually made the decision to refuse me, and was it a medical decision by the doctors or an administrative decision by the office? However, NYEE Patient Relations avoided this central question in its official response. It did not explain why my formal ENT referral was not honored, why an already confirmed appointment was canceled, or what it actually meant that the two doctors had supposedly “reviewed your records.” Instead, I was given the broad statement that “doctors in the same office share identical opinions,” and was simply directed back to my previous doctor. This creates an unavoidable contradiction: if this was a medical decision by the doctors, there should be a medical basis for it. If it was an administrative decision by the office, the doctors’ names should not have been used as a shield. I am not demanding that any doctor accept me, nor am I demanding a medical conclusion that I want. I am asking for the most basic patient right: when a patient has a formal specialist referral, has followed the proper appointment process, and has received insurance approval, if the patient is refused an appointment, there should be a clear and honest explanation of why—and who actually made that decision. This was not simply a failed appointment. It was a process in which office staff repeatedly obstructed my attempts to obtain an appointment, canceled an appointment that had already been successfully established, and ultimately refused me under the claim that the doctors had reviewed my records, while NYEE Patient Relations continued to avoid the central questions after my formal complaint. This was arrogant and contradictory administrative interference, and it also damages the doctors’ professional reputations. This kind of deceptive gatekeeping is a disregard for basic patient rights. I do not intend to rate the doctors with a one-star rating. However, Vitals requires a star rating in order to post a review, so I selected one star simply because it was required.

To say that dealing with her team and assistant is a nightmare is putting it mildly The words that come to mind are rude arrogant ignorant and incompetent Total nightmare

I think Dr. Consetti is a wonderful doctor who takes time to make sure everything is covered. Her assistants are just as wonderful! I would definately recommend her!

I had heard great things about her. Especially about the amount of interest and time she spends with her patients. I was a little disappointed that I saw a PA first. The PA was very nice and professional. I wanted the be interviewed, and examined by Dr Cosetti, though--- The reason we see highly rated and well educated MDs is we want them to treat us. This also means taking an accurate history and the use of the doctors intelligence and education to elict responses that might be pertinent to a patients particular diagnosis.
