My son is having his surgery right now at a facility near AAMC with doctor Shushan as the surgeon, and dr Orlov as an anesthesiologist. So far it’s been the best surgery experience we’ve had. They do it very humanely. I was worried that I would have to start begging and convincing them to do and allow certain things in order to reduce my son’s anxiety, like I had to do when his brother had his surgeries last spring. However, they said that if I hadn’t asked, they would have offered all of it! That was in my wish list: 1. Put him under light sedation for inserting the IV. (It took way too many tries when they tried with with his brother, it was very traumatizing to him). 2. Let me accompany him to the OR and stay until he falls asleep. (Of course they fully suited me up to avoid the risk of getting germs into the room). 3. Let me be with him very shortly after he wakes up, even if he is drowsy. 4. Prescribe him good pain medication for 3 days after the surgery. They… were 100% supportive of all of it right off the bat. Usually I’m a ball of anxiety before my kids’ surgery, but not this time. My son said it helped him stay way calmer than he thought. The doctor had great bed side manners, he was on time, answered all of the questions, we didn’t feel rushed. I totally recommend these doctors and this facility!
