Dr. Meetra Farhat, MD

I took my aunt for the second time to see Dr. Meetra on our first visit she seemed to take her time. My aunt reported her ailments and expressed it to Dr. Meetra. On our last visit blood work was done. They instructed me to get the results from the Portal which did not clarify on what the results mean. So I explained to Dr Meetra that my aunt is use to a Dr explaining to her what the results mean and before I was able to finish Dr Meetra cut me off and attempted to explain to my aunt. I again told her we need you to explain to her the ACL level compared to the previous blood work we turned in from her previous Dr. So she then explained that then I prompted her for the other lab work but she did the best she could. Probably no one ever ask those questions before of lab work done and the results of what it means to them as a patient. She may not be a person to deal with seniors or not to ask too many questions. She also refused to refer her to a specialist. We will not be back.

I was not too excited to take my aunt to see this doctor based on her 2.5 star rating. This was my second appointment that day. I took my mother to another doctor then took my aunt to this doctor and the comparison was black and white. I felt Farhat was patient and spoke slowly to my aunt and listened to what she had to say. Especially speaking to seniors I believe that is important. She took time to examine her and asked those questions that medicare makes them ask. My aunt did want to see a Gastroenterologist and she responded let's see. She was able to ask about her concerns and placed my aunt at ease she didn't need to see one based on her concerns. My take was giving a referral cost you nothing and if someone has a concern to put their mind at ease you should give the referral. I'm sure my aunt is going to change her mind and inquire to me about seeing a Gastroenterologist again :-). Farhat has improved based on these previous ratings she did the work to turn her ratings… around. Overall pleased.

First visit to see Dr. Farhat for check up. TBH, I was a little trepidatious on the outset because of the negative reviews I'd read. But it was absolutely unfounded because she could not have been nicer and more professional. I felt I was in wonderful hands. She did this one thing that is really telling of her high degree of EQ, while I was rambling on about my medical history, listing in no certain order but with painstaking minutiae the myriad of surgeries and family histories of such-and-such and this-that-the-other, she sat there patiently taking notes on the relevant and never once interrupted my tangent by interjected with the “un-huhs” or “right” that subtly suggest to speed things along. She listened. Really listened. And I felt heard! I swear if she didn’t go into Internal Medicine she would’ve made a great Psychiatrist! She’s great. Highly recommend!

This is an excellent MD who is very thorough, quickly analytical and does not want to keep a patient on many medications. Dr. Farhat even explained how to wean from a medication in detail. I have lived in many states of the U.S. and would highly recommend her for anyone who is well traveled and speaks standard English and also Spanish, Dari, Farsi, and Urdu.

Overall, I had a good experience with Dr. Farhat. I'm a primary care internal medicine physician myself. I read some of the reviews below, and she doesn't strike me as someone who is rude or incompetent at all. Granted, I didn't go with any complex medical issue where that can be a better gauge of a physician's medical skills and manner, but I would take those reviews below with a grain of salt (e.g., I've seen colleagues of mine get similar horrendous reviews from patients who vent b/c they didn't get opiates for pain that they otherwise don't need opiates for, for instance). Certainly, if I see something that is an anti-thesis to a good, caring physician, I would be compelled to change my review; but otherwise, from my initial encounters with her, I wouldn't worry that you're going to get sub-par care.

I saw her several times, at first giving her the benefit of the doubt like "maybe she's having a bad day". She is flagrantly rude, disinterested and incompetent. She actually lied. She gave me advice that was counter to my condition. She seems like a miserable narcissist who is definitely in the wrong field. Unfortunately, my experience with her caused me to avoid MGH docs (if they hired her what kind of quality control do they have?) as much as possible. So I travel an hour even though I live near MGH. Additionally, my husband and I were considering a monetary donation to MGH - but that will be going elsewhere as well. As a physician myself, I do not like to criticize other MDs - however she is a danger and MGH is doing patients a disservice by employing her.

I visited Dr Meetra Farhat a couple of times back in 2017 and also in 2018. Every time, I found her lacking genuine interest toward my condition or showing proper bedside manner, let alone that I didn’t feel her medical judgment could be trusted and I was right as my condition has been going on despite her judgment.

She does not listen. She does not assess the individual but rather looks for an umbrella condition you can be placed under, and passes off to a specialist. She is cold, rude, spends minimal time with you, and is flippant. "See you soon, kay?" she said, after she suggested a 1 year follow up.... this was after I'd come in with severe symptoms after multiple specialist visits and an ER trip. Each doctor prior acknowledged something severe was going on but needed a primary care to direct properly- she read all their notes (in the appt not prior like I had assumed given the severity) and sent me off to another one while planning to have me back a year later. Given the symptoms, this is absolutely unacceptable and if you are in dire need of a diagnosis/path forward, you're better off with a walk in clinic or your mom's friend who is a nurse.

Her lack of compassion, disinterest in me and not providing me with follow up with her after the initial appt I waited 4 months for despite my many medical problems which should be within the training of a primary care physician, her doggedly unhelpful, cold as ice bedside manner make her an unacceptable PCP for me or anyone who cares about their health and well-being.
