Dr. Megan Elizabeth App, MD

Dr. App saved my life during my pregnancy. Her bed side manner was amazing!! She has left my hospital and I refuse to have another child without her prenatal care. She knows exactly what to do in an emergency. She takes her job very seriously and she is an excellent teacher! I would def recommend her.

This review is for Dr. Megan App, not the entire practice (with which I was pretty disappointed). Dr. App is hands down the best physician by whom I have ever been served. She was a great listener, extremely accessible, and went out of her way to educate herself and me about my options. In terms of being accessible she would turn around phone calls as well as emails within hours, no matter what type of shift or duty she was serving at the time.Dr. App was never judgmental about my decisions about my reproductive health, gender expression, or sexuality. She was a long term advocate for me and the health care services I wanted and needed.In addition, when either she or I were dissatisfied with services provided (or lack there of) in conjunction with my care under her service, she was proactive and reactive. Dr. App is trustworthy, timely, warm, appreciative, open minded, intelligent, and supportive. I could not have asked for more.

My wait time was not very long at all, and the front desk person at her Maxwell St. office was very nice, just didn't process my insurance correctly. However, Dr. App did not make me feel very comfortable at all, she also seemed to be talking down to me and did not even give me the opportunity to ask her questions nor did she fully address my concerns. I just so happened to have an appt. with my PCP later in the week who gave me my test results, but as of yet, still have yet to hear from Dr. Apps office.

I was a patient of Dr. App's for almost three years. I kept going to her because I wanted to develop a rapport with a physician. In 2009 I went for my annual exam and she told me that I gained 10 pounds. I told her I had issues with maintaining my weight even through diet and exercise. She told me to look into buying the Biggest Loser workout video. I questioned that was her medical advice? In addition, I had another issue related to menapause and she referred me back to my internal medicine physician instead of trying to help me with my issue. She has a terrible personality and I often felt uncomfortable with her.

I like Dr. App a lot. Initially I went to her for a second opinion at the suggestion of my primary care physician, and subsequently had a procedure done in the office followed by a minor surgery at the UIC Medical Center - both of which she performed. Dr. App put me at ease from the start, and was especially comforting during the office procedure. As soon as I saw her at the hospital the day of my surgery, I was relieved. She always looks me straight in the eyes, answers all of my questions, exerts a calming influence, and I can honestly say I've enjoyed the visits to her office. I prefer to arrange for my appointments to take place at the Maxwell Street office.

I was forced to stay with this doctor because of insurance reasons. After a battery of painful tests, I got nowhere after one year. While I know it's important to be thorough, she would get annoyed if I showed any pain or discomfort. Pulled out of a joint surgery the NIGHT BEFORE, after delaying it 4 months. I'm sure she's knowledgeable and well educated, but her crass attitude and poor bedside manner make her a terrible doctor.

If you're looking for a long-term Gynecologist I would not suggest this one. The location is great, parking is affordable but the actual care ranks at the bottom of my list. From the moment I stepped in I was uncomfortable and almost considered leaving after meeting her. She was very robotic, appeared to be condescending at times and unprepared for my visit. She didn't spend any quality time discussing future course of actions, was very matter of fact and just not personable. I also waited a good hour before she came to see me. I ended up being late for class.I wanted to find a good physician that I could continue seeing in the event I decide to have a baby. I don't see her being that person. For some people she may be just what you're looking but to me finding a good Gynecologist is like finding a great hair stylist. They have to get to know you, make you feel comfortable, satisfied and willing to come back. My search continues...
