Dr. Mehmet Rifat Genc, MD

There is a difference between bad bedside manner and straight ignorant arrogance. This man had never seen me before, my mfm was on vacation, I had IUGR and other possible complications I was fully aware of. I finished my ultrasound, the tech went to get him to review it. (Normal procedure) Dr Genc came in, didn't ask questions and immediately began with, I think your child has ambiguous genetalia, I think it has Smith Lemily Opitz, when the Geneticist returns (she was on Vacation that week), I will have her get with you (she was never notified), then in a very condensending tone, he said that because I chose not to have an amniocentesis, I was going to have to live with my child's disabilities, and I was past the point of terminating my pregnancy .. then walked out. I had to Google what syndrome he said he thought my child had. I guess he never read my file. I had a genetic profile done and I wasn't a carrier. For the baby to have it, I would have to be a carrier and so would… his dad. Then I get admitted to the hospital a few weeks later. I made it very clear I didn't want to see this man, nor did I want him to have any part in decision making with my delivery. My charge nurse had to alert patient services because he would not leave me alone. (She reported him without me even asking) I have met others at Shands with horror stories I have encouraged them to contact patient services and to write reviews. I will also be contacting the medical board. Please use caution after hearing others stories, I feel this man has no business as a Dr.

He is a very friendly and informative doctor.My water broke at 5 am.When we called him,his shift was over.He was on call and tired,but he did not go and let the delivery be made by another doctor.You can trust him!!

Nobody believe to awards anymore. This person has no experience about patient body, he doesn't know anything to prescribe. Under your risk if you go to this person.

Worst doctor ever!

Not understanding some of the bad reviews for Dr Genc. I had a very pleasant experience with him. I was diagnosed with mono/mono twins which are rare and very high risk. Dr Genc from the very beginning was very forthcoming about all my options and and he educated my husband and I on all the possible outcomes so that we could make an informed decision. He might not be for everyone if you want a doctor that holds your hand on every little detail. He is very smart, direct and to the point, which are qualities I appreciate. He worked with me throughout my pregnancy and alwys listened to what I wanted. I wanted to deliver at 34 weeks and keep my babies in as long as possible and he made every effort to comply but one of the babies seemed to be in distress and we delivered at 32 weeks via c-section. He did a great job, my scar is so minimal! I would recommend him to anyone who is experiencing a high risk pregnancy. I will say one negative is the wait time. He does have emergencies that he… has to deal with and that could push your appointment 2 hours behind. But knowing the type of pregnancies he is dealing with, and him giving his attention to them made me feel better about being his patient.

I gave him every benefit of the doubt, but was so appalled at the treatment I received at Cornell's er when I was taken in three times in two days, as well as genc's appalling attitude when not willing to give me an appointment with him or anyone else he practices with for three weeks after I miscarried at the hospital...there are no words. I regret ever being referred to him. I may as well have gone to a field, dug a hole and squatted over it and miscarried therein. It would have cost me less and I would have gotten the same medical care that I got at Cornell. Overall felt like I did not have a doctor guiding me

I went to Dr. Genc as a transfer patient at 21 weeks. As he was reviewing my records from my previous Dr., and I told Dr. Genc we did NOT want to know the sex of our baby - we wanted to be surprised. In less than 10 minutes, he blurted out what we are having for no particular reason. He ruined our once in a lifetime experience of waiting to find out the sex of our baby until birth. There are only so many amazing surprises in life and this is probably #1. Dr. Genc didn't even have a reason why he said that...he was speechless and was stuttering. This proves he doesn't know how to listen to his patients - major red flag. We will never go back to him again.

I first saw dr gench in 2001 for my pregnancy that was complicated as one could get...he explained everything to me along the way told me my odds he told me the TRUTH my baby would not survive and he was giving me the choice to continue or end it at 23 weeks he understood what a difficult decision this was but we felt he supported us in our decision to end it...the night before I was suppose to have the procedure I went into labor and delivered in the hallway of the room all I remember was I was curled up in a fetal position after I had pushed my baby out and my head was between facing right when dr gench ran into the room spoke with the attending OB and came to my bedside next to my face and said "this was the best outcome." he was right it was...a few days later I was back in the labor and delivery but this time with Pre eclampsia and he was honest with us he had never seen Pre eclampsia after delivery of the baby...but he took control of the situation and here I am 12 years later… with three healthy kids...he got us thru a difficult time and always told us the truth no matter how difficult it was!

We went to Dr. Genc for our first baby. I was high risk post 40 with a history of first trimester miscarriages. He was fantastic..took 2 visits to get used to his style but on point, calmed me down, data driven and ultimately delivered our baby based on my plan. Our son was 2 weeks late and he respected my wishes to try not to induce labor. After I tried yoga, accupuncture, walks etc we finally induced at 42 weeks. He was supportive and reminded me of my birth plan. Great doctor, knows his stuff and I will defy go back to him if I am blessed to have another baby. I also liked he didn't feed my anxieties and focus on me being high risk he kept going back to the data that all tests, CVS etc were normal.
