Dr. Melih M Kurtulus, MD

Dr. Kurtulus has been my ob/gyn for 9 years. He has performed multiple complicated surgeries and delivered my daughters via c-section. He is an excellent surgeon and doctor - perhaps the best in the country. Dr. Kurtulus is meticulous, attentive, and compassionate. In addition, his nursing and office staff are organized and thorough.

Dr. Kurtulus is simply brilliant! I am so incredibly thankful to have found him after being in non-stop, debilitating pain and struggling with incompetent doctors that attempted to gaslight me, for almost 7 months. I am writing this 2 weeks post-op, and I am just in awe of Dr. Mel's knowledge, dedication and talent. He never once second-guessed my pain or symptoms. Upon seeing him, he created a plan of action and scheduled an ultrasound in which they found a huge cyst on my left ovary (that somehow the previous ultrasound at my previous doctor had missed). Within 2 weeks, I had a surgery scheduled to remove the cyst and check for endometriosis. Dr. Kurtulus performs robotic surgery which not only allows for increased precision, but there are smaller incisions, lower risk of infection, and MUCH less pain. I was up and walking within hours and back to normal-ish within a week! Surgery was performed at the Scripps Hospital and the whole team involved were caring, friendly and really… helped ease my anxiety. Unfortunately, the surgery did find endometriosis, but being in Dr. Kurtulus care gives me incredible peace of mind. I wholeheartedly trust his judgment and clinical recommendations. Two weeks after surgery, the endo pain has magically subsided - I can now get up, play with my dog, drive, go to the store, sit down on chairs, perform my job without limitations and engage in the hobbies and coping strategies that are imperative to maintaining my physical and mental health. After being in pain and bed-ridden for 9 months (during a global pandemic, no less), Dr. Kurtulus has given me my life back, and that is the ultimate gift. I will forever be grateful to Dr. Mel!

I was lucky enough to find Dr. Mel upon recommendation from one of my friends after having been diagnosed with “enormous” uterine fibroids. I had never had surgery before and was absolutely terrified, but Dr. Mel made me feel totally comfortable and safe, and welcomed all of my questions without making me feel embarrassed about my anxiety. His bedside manner is excellent, and it is obvious that he truly cares about his patients’ well-being. I was very nervous going into my surgery and Dr. Mel met me in preop and instantly calmed me down. The surgery went off flawlessly, and despite said enormous fibroids, I have almost no visible scars, only 3 weeks post op. One scar is even in my belly button and totally invisible; he even managed to preserve the appearance of my belly button. Dr. Mel also checked in on me multiple times after I went home from my procedure to make sure that I was healing well, and was available to answer all of my questions and concerns in an incredibly timely manner.… I already feel better than I did pre surgery, and will continue to go to SDWH for any/all of my gynecologic visits. I can’t stress enough how grateful I am to have found SDWH!

Dr. Kurtulus preformed a myomectomy on me to remove several uterine fibroids. He is a fantastic doctor and surgeon. He explained everything to me before the surgery and was able to remove all the fibroids, including a rather large one, with minimal scaring. I wholeheartedly trust him and would most definitely recommend him.

Dr. Kurtulus was just my OB/GYN since 2012...until he wasn't! In 2014, I had surgery to remove a cyst; Dr. Kurtulus was my robotic surgeon and diagnosed me with Endometriosis. I've learned so much since then because of Dr. Kurtulus and his office staff. I've had three additional surgeries since then; each with Dr. Kurtulus. He's incredibly knowledgeable about the disease, the treatment options available, and practices excision surgery (considered the gold standard). Although my disease continues to return, I feel safe with him and I know that I won't find more capable hands in San Diego. He's incredibly compassionate, patient, and kind. It makes dealing with this illness much easier.

Dr. Mel comes highly recommended. His office is warm and inviting and tge sraff are friendly and helpful. In addition to OBGYN he is also a robotic surgeon. The clinic accepts out of network patients as well.

Dr. Mel, is a amazing doctor! He has performed two surgeries on me, both very successful with easy recoveries. In 2009, he performed surgery because I had an ectopic pregnancy. I was devastated! Dr. Mel was so compassionate, and understanding regarding my disappointment over losing a much wanted pregnancy. He has a warm and gentle bedside manner, and genuinely cares about his patients. In 2015, I had to have another unrelated surgery. Again, Dr Mel was warm, genuine and compassionate. His office staff is wonderful, and make patients feel like family. The office is beautifully decorated, inviting and comfortable. I highly recommend Dr. Kurtulusd his staff.

Thanks to Dr. Kurtulus and his staff, we were able to have a dream come true - the birth of our baby girl! I started seeing Dr. Kurtulus a few years ago because I had some medical conditions that required multiple surgeries. His focus on minimally invasive procedures ensured that I had swift and safe recoveries with little-to-no complications. At one point we had considered finding a doctor closer to where we live, but I chose to stay with Dr. Kurtulus because I trusted him, felt that he was an exceptional surgeon, and appreciated his professionalism. I had a very difficult pregnancy and he and his staff were always attentive and supportive. When it came time to deliver, I had a scheduled C-section. The entire delivery process went as smooth as can be expected and my scar is barely noticeable. What really made a difference for me was when it was time for the anesthesiologist to administer the spinal epidural, Dr. Kurtulus held my hand, rubbing it gently while speaking softly. … This was very comforting and helped set the tone for the whole procedure. He and his staff are always professional, calm and reassuring. I would definitely recommend him to anyone.

He is a the BEST doctor in San Diego CA. He quickly diagnosed my daughter and treat her with so much respect and kindness, he discover a large cyst in her only ovary he did a robotic surgery to remove her cyst he save her ovary and since then my daughter have her life back she is healthy. He simple is amazing! Before meeting him my daughter was so so sick for over a year in a half we visit so many doctors and no body could find what was wrong. My daughter is 17 years old.

Dr. Kurtulus performed a robotic hysterectomy 11 days ago and I can't believe how great I feel. I have tiny incisions and pretty much pain free. I would highly recommend him for this kind of surgery.
