Dr. Melanie Dawn Cloonan-Schulte, MD

To say their office is abysmal would be a compliment. The single worst healthcare provider my partner has ever experienced with an office staff to match. How dare they treat their patients the way they do. Zero respect. We'd sue them and make sure they never see another patient again if we could.

Trans-friendly and competent doctor, which are rare in the Phoenix area. I definitely have her to thank for my hormones and progress in my transition. Their billing and accounts department is horrendous though. Today I just received a call for a past due balance of $200... from 4 years ago. They claimed they did not have a current forwarding address, however it took them 4 years to call me to tell me that in an audit my insurance did not cover a visit. That is extremely UNPROFESSIONAL. Honestly, find a doctor's office that actually bothers to get in contact with you. This one ain't it.

I'm very confident that I'm receiving thoughtful, informed care from Dr. Cloonan-Schulte.

Dr. Cloonan treats you with respect, is very professional, and explains everything in terms you can understand. I have had great experiences at this office.

I went to Dr. Cloonan for an elbow problems and she said I had tennis elbow she said I will give you a Cortizone shot and that will cure it when she gave me that Cortizone shot soon as she put the needle in my elbow it went straight to my hand and ever since then I have had nothing but pain and I finally went to an orthopedic doctor and he did surgery on me to correct the damage and it's been about nine months now and my hand is still the same way as the day I walked out of her office after that Cortizone shot I went back twice and she said she didn't do anything.

My only complaint is that sometimes it's difficult to get an appointment. She's very busy and also goes out of town for conferences often.

Dr. Cloonan-Schulte may indeed be well-trained and personable to some of her patients, but she most assuredly was not either kind or compassionate to my mother and our family. My mother did not like going to the doctor, but realized she needed to for her condition - COPD. When her physician of over 30 years retired, my fiance and I recommended our doctor, her partner Dr. Lieber. My mother was informed that Dr. Lieber did not see female patients by the front office staff (which I highly doubt is true) and was assigned to Cloonan-Schulte. After her first visit, my mother was given a new medication which did seem to help, but there were no follow-up calls to see if it was helping - nothing. This past week, my mother passed away. We had taken her into the office the afternoon before. My mother had informed Cloonan-Schulte that she had been coughing for nearly three weeks and her regular meds were offering little relief. After a VERY brief visit - my mother was the last appointment of the… day - Cloonan-Schulte prescribed a round of Prednisone and then called in refills on all my mother's other medications, which we did not ask for, or need. When my mother passed away the next morning, the hospital staff told us that if her primary care physician did not feel an autopsy was needed, none would be performed. The doctor signed off on this. However, when the funeral home requested she sign the death certificate, she refused, stating that the Medical Examiner should, knowing full well that no Medical Examiner had seen her. This woman may be well educated but cares more about her personal life than the lives of her patients. She has no qualms whatsoever about forcing our family to wait while my mother cannot even be cremated because she won't sign the death certificate. I cannot recommend her to anyone who has a chronic disorder or disease, or really to treat much beyond a simple upper respiratory infection. One star was given only because it had to be to submit the review. She doesn't even deserve that star.

The wait is very long but she does spend extra time with you. She is always thorough, even in her follow-ups, however, they haven't updated my weight, BP, medications, etc. in more than 2 years!! Office staff can be rude at times and like others have said, the entire office, including the doctors, can be heard talking about patients. This in itself is unacceptable and very unprofessional.

If you are looking for a timely doc to get you in and out of the office fast, Dr. Cloonan is not for you. Dr. Cloonan is meticulous in her questioning, and is one of the more active listeners that I've ever met. I waited while she took extra time with the patient before me, who it seemed had 1,000 questions, then expected Dr. Cloonan to rush through my appointment to get back on schedule, but I was pleasantly surprised when she came through the door as if I was her first patient of the day. We blabbed not only about my symptoms and family medical history, but also about my lifestyle and my opinions on my condition. Dr. Cloonan made me feel unique, and talked to me as if I was a close family member. I am very picky about choosing professionals, but Dr. Cloonan is a keeper...

I wish I read some of these reviews before seeing her. My husband and I both scheduled first time appts. with her, we recently moved to AZ. I have been feeling ill and in pain since moving here, her only solution was to take yoga. After the appt I cried all the way home because I was in pain and she did nothing. My husbands visit was not much better. He takes a muscle relaxer for severe leg cramps at night, she refused to refill it saying he didn't need it. He has not had a decent night of sleep since, he wakes up with severe leg cramps almost every night. Also she told him not to take his diabetes meds any more because he didn't need it. She didn't even check his blood. He has been borderline diabetic. My husband is in the hospital right now and they told him he is fully diabetic and needs to take meds. He is in the hospital for unrelated problems, but at least these doctors will take care of him. When we were in her office the receptionist was very sick, could barely speak. She was… not allowed to go home and she was going to urgent care as soon as she left work " because maybe they will care there".
