Dr. Melissa D. Fana, MD

Dr. Fana is an incredible person and surgeon. Brilliant, caring, and never makes you feel rushed. HOWEVER there are some major problems with the appointment coordinator. None of my appointments have ever been scheduled through that office except one. There is no follow up unless you follow up yourself. I had to have other doctors and other staff from my entire team coordinate with Dr Fana‘s office because nothing gets done. The office manager/coordinator does not take any accountability. I would give Dr Fana five stars, and I would give the management of that office zero stars. But because I love Dr Fana, I’m giving 4.

There are no words that exist that can sufficiently express our sincere gratitude to Dr. Fana. She is an exceptional physician/surgical oncologist, caring in her approach, and diligent in her explanation of breast cancer, oncology, medical options, procedures, and diagnostic results. When my wife was first diagnosed with breast cancer, we knew virtually nothing about it – and not one surgical oncologist would even talk to us on the phone - that is until we called Dr. Fana’s office. She returned our telephone call immediately and spent countless time with us assuring us, comforting us, and explaining the etiology of my wife’s particular breast cancer. I spent hour after hour researching, reading, and absorbing – all the while conferring with Dr. Fana. Our lives – and the life of my family – my wife, young daughter and son – were forever changed with the diagnosis. Our emotions and the psychological ramifications of getting the diagnosis were significant. Immediately, Dr.… Fana spoke to us on the phone for hours and time and time again and explained to us how the specifics and particulars of her breast cancer. There was a colossal consumption of information and data in the early stages of her diagnosis – size, growth rate, testing, MRI results, ultrasound results, protein receptors, oncology options, surgical options, reconstructive options, plastics information, hormone therapy, and on and on and on. Not only did Dr. Fana take the time to express her impressions in detail – she advocated for us with diagnostic facilities and our health insurance carrier. She demanded excellence and was thorough with the details of every aspect of care, planning, and diagnostics. And so our journey began and it continues…and we are forever grateful and indebted to Dr. Fana for her extraordinary medical and stellar oncology knowledge, clinical impressions, diagnostic reviews, and her kindness and compassion throughout the process. Five stars would be an injustice to Dr. Fana – she is deserving of a million.

Dr. Fana is a compassionate, knowledgeable, caring professional. I had LCIS and she took the time to explain every step, gave me options and calmed me down. When she preformed the surgery she spoke to me first, listened to me and I had no worries with her being my doctor. I had to go for a MRI 3 months after surgery and now have DCIS again I will see it through with Dr. Fana thank God for her making me do a MRI this soon It is stage 0. Dr. Fana is the best doctor I have ever met in my 60 years on this earth and many different illnesses.

Dr. Fana is open to speaking to you about any questions you may have. Although busy she does not hesitate to answer a question or clarify anything happening with you even a family members questions about your treatment. I am extremely happy with my choice of a surgeon and once I met her felt I did not have to go any further for help.

Dr Fana is wonderful. She is caring and very informative. Dr Fana will answer any questions you may have and makes you feel very comfortable. She is an absolute pleasure to have as a doctor.

After Dr.fana left brookhaven i thought i wasnt going to be able to find care like hers any where else. Thank god i found her she is now with Northwell health in bayshore. She is so knowledgeable and always with the latest research when it comes to breast cancer and treatment she is defiantely the Doctor to see! Her staff is amazing her coordinator jessica is teuly amazing i didnt have to schedule anything she handle all my appoinments and booking my surgery

So compassionate ! Truly blessed to have been referred to Dr. Fana. She is so down to earth and truly cares. She is very knowledgeble with new techniques. Highly recommend!!
