Dr. Merle Correa Cruz, MD

My father went to the ER complaining of foot pain and inablilty to walk. I received a call from my father stating that this doctor said he can go home. I called her office immediately asking why would he be discharged if he wasn’t able to walk and her reply was “It won’t look good if he’s re-admitted after only 1 week” . I’m not sure what “looking good” had to do with safely discharging a patient. She then proceeded to tell me “all your dad does is complain, complain, complain”. This is not something you want to hear after seeing your 70 year old father crying from pain. HIGHLY UNPROFESSIONAL. I am a nurse and would never expect to hear a doctor or any other medical professional to speak to a family member like this regarding a patient. She spoke in a very condescending tone the entire conversation and is NOT proactive in her patients healthcare. I am fully aware that my father has many ailments but this is no way to treat someone. When informing the dr that my father had 2 sets of… flights at home and that he would be unable to get up the stairs her response was “you can figure it out”. This is so appalling. After pleading with her that it would be UNSAFE to discharge my father home, she said “well he’ll be admitted by someone else. I’m not going to see him.” She needs to work on doing what’s best for the patient and not worrying about what “looks good”. She also lacks compassion and empathy.

Uncaring and lost touch with patients. She posed a danger with my mother's care by remaining as her physician especially when she knew she was basically absent and uncaring. She was on her way to the airport when I found out that she was leaving for a month trip without even doing the proper transfer of care to another physician in her absense. I had to prompt her to transfer my mother's records in the middle of my mother getting treatment.
