Dr. Merrill Kingman Shum, MD

I honestly have not met a more amazing doctor. I saw him TWO times after being diagnosed and after coming from a “hot shot” Beverly Hills oncologist, Dr Shum was 5 stars! He spent so much time with us going through treatment options, pluses and minuses of each treatment method, and was patient and pleasant. Amazing bedside manner which other doctors DO NOT have. He even thinks “outside the box” which many doctors do not. I don’t have enough amazing words to describe how good I feel!

I am an ovarian cancer patient and have been with Dr Shum for about 5 years. He has been very compassionate and caring throughout my various treatments of chemo and radiation. The staff and nurses are all very kind and professional. I would recommend this doctor to my friends.

I've seen plenty of hematologists, and I must say that Dr. Shum is one great doctor. He's in the medical field for all the right reasons. Thank you "doc" for taking care of me and keeping me well.

Dr. Shum is very professional . He is very knowledgeable . My husband has been seeing him for almost 3 yrs. and all that time he made has feel important , we were not just a patient but we were people. He explained things to us in a way that we would understand our circumstances. Straight forward with compassion. He listened to us , which was important for us.

My mom was diagnosed with colon cancer. It was a very tough time for all of us. But Dr. shum was very professional, kind and I felt that he sincerely cared for his patient. Would recommend him.

Too many patients and not enough research taken for each individual's specific case and delalys in being treated. Dr seems very sweet and nice, but, isn't the best and he gave me a less desirable treatment for my type of cancer until I got another dr.'s advice. This is our lives in there and it seems like we're just another number. Chemo room is horrible, dreary and lifeless...none of the amenities to make hours of sitting there easier. Better options now for patients to try other PIH offices.

If you need a great doctor who truly cares, this is the guy you want. His staff is also very friendly and professional.

One of the absolute best oncologists in Glendale. Dr. Shum is fantastic at what he does, and that helps calm your nerves. Dr. Shum and his staff made me so comfortable in an otherwise uncomfortable situation. Thank you to Dr. Shum and the entire team at the Institute of Hope and Innovation.

Dr. Shum is just excellent. He truly cares about his patients, very knowledgeable, sweet, takes his time to explain the procedures, follows up with his patients. Just an amazing doctor overall.
