Dr. Amaral is a board-certified neurosurgeon that states sacroiliac dysfunction is espically prevalent is women in ther 30's and 40's. This syndrome can occur in some men as well. The sacroiliac joint is found between the spine and the ilium of the pelvic girdle. "We think the pain is due to misalignment. In women, who have had children and then never get back to normal". A sudden movement then causes the joint to go out of position. Younger women may have developed problems as result of a sports injury. Sacroiliac dysfunction represents 33% of back problems in young people and 15 -25% of all people with low back pain, it's really quite common, but many physicians don't know what to do with it. Dr. Amaral and his partner, Dr. Alan B. Lippitt, a board certified orthopedic surgeon, who also does Prolo Therapy, have a combined 30 years of experience in the diagnosis of Sacroiliac Joint Dysfunction
