Dr. Michael Lance Bell, MD

I have had a serious illness for over 17 years and have seen more doctors than I can count . My experience with Dr. Bell has, by far been the BEST I have ever had! Not only is he very knowledgeable and caring but he has a passion and want to figure things out! Which, in my experience with most other doctors is not the case, they just want to write you a prescription and move on which just masks the problem without fixing it . Dr. Bell was the 1st doctor I had that was not driven by his ego and did not have a problem with reaching out to other doctors to get their opinions . His main concern is the wellbeing of his patients !!!! He listens, he cares , he asks questions, he is honest and most of all he will do whatever it takes to make sure he is doing all he can to help you!!! I would and do recommend him to anyone that needs a neurologist that will make a difference!!!

This guy is not a doctor and he is certainly not any kind of a decent human being. Dr. Bell was beyond inappropriate with me. He refused to let me speak at all. He kept asking the same Q’s over. When I would try to answer he would cut me off with another Q. It appeared as though he enjoyed being a bully. After I asked him to please allow me to speak, he became abrasive. While sitting on the table, he had his face literally right up in mine. So close that I could feel the warmth of his breath all over my face. I was creeped out! I sais please get out of my face and back away from me! I told him that he was making me very uncomfortable and really freaking me out. He became so adjutated by this he started trembling. He said he could hear and feel my rapid heart rate and that I was making his speed up. I said no doubt, what do you expect when youre right up in a persons face! It is clear that he has issues with accountability and often blames others. When angry he accused me of… having emotional/mental issues. The way he looked and said it, it was a clear put down. He also tried to discredit actual good doctors that had seen before him. He was weird, combative and very controlling. His staff act beat down by his narcissistic behavior. It’s a very uneasy atmosphere.

Supposedly he took an oath to do no harm. He told me that I was a waste of his time when I was in dire need & scared of dying...he pretty much told me and my husband to shut TFU & shooed us out of his office. If you want to talk to a doctor instead of an ego we suggest you look elsewhere. If you are not important to his goals you mean nothing. I hope he gets busted and fails - that's the way he made me feel. JERK CITY Yeah - and that was a $250.00 visit to be horribly insulted. I pray that karma is real. He deserves a severe slap - BAD JERK!!!!!

Rude, horrible bedside manner, uncaring, unprofessional, didn’t listen and made false accusations about my child’s health history and ignored previous disgnosis when moved here from out of state. We now drive to Portland and couldn’t be happier!

He made me wait 1hr &15 min in the reception area , then another 20 min in the patients room. When he came in he said he was sorry he was on call at the hospitol and I asked him why he didn't tell his patients he was running so late and give them the opportunity to rebook. I needed his professional opinion. I told him about how I thought I had been over looked and disregarded and that I was angry that he and his office had completely destroyed my plans for the day. He said he wasn't comfortable treating me because I told him how angry I was. He then told me to leave and he left the room. I saw him walking down the hall and I informed him I would be billing him for my time and he threatened to call the police on me!!! There was NO DIAGNOSIS and he made me wait 1&1/2 hours.

He friendly and up to date with changes in medical problems.

Parents, if you love your child, don't take them to Dr. Bell. Our experience was almost incomprehensible. I have never seen someone who lacks so much professionalism, empathy...and the skill to look at our child's complex medical needs and to blow them off. He made our child cry. He did not review our medical files completely and then rendered judgement on things he knew no details about...while NOT treating our child for epilepsy and symptoms like a knowledgeable doctor should. SUPER SCAREY.

Appointments always started late, once by a half day. Receptionist took an argumentative stance to the point of raising her voice.

Very rude dishonest staff.

Dr. Bell is highly intelligent, but he sorely lacks personnel skills. He is knowledgeable and can usually give one an accurate diagnosis, but interprets questions in a negative manner. He reasserts his personal credentials in a defensive tone, instead of valuing a parent's right to be his or his child's health advocate. If one asks questions, Bell becomes defensive and visibly upset, even raising his voice in anger. Bell clearly lacks compassion when diagnosing patients with serious illness. He conveys a tone of pride at his arrival at a diagnosis, but misses that a patient's life may have been turned upside-down with stress and shock. He lacks nurturing, follow-up skills that would lend a patient comfort and support. Bell has become clearly overbooked and spread thin, which likely accounts for his declining compassion and patience. However, his medical mistakes in prescriptions, titration schedules, and patient chart confusion make this manifest and scary. His secretary,… Valerie, speaks in a rude and condescending tone, and lets one know she definitely cannot be bothered with any additional requests from her or concerns for the doctor. If one has a child with a neurological issue and can manage the drive, I highly recommend visiting the authentic pediatric neurologists in Portland at OHSU's Doernbecher's Children's Hospital. Their quality of care and respect for the patient surpass Bell's on every level.
