Dr. Michael T Benke, MD

I had a deeply disappointing and frankly distressing experience with Dr. Michael Benke. I came in with a clearly described history of gluteus muscle contracture following years of intramuscular penicillin injections in childhood. I explained that I had undergone soft tissue release surgery many years ago and that a follow-up CT had suggested possible damage to my right gluteus maximus. I openly admitted that I did not have prior imaging or surgical records in hand, but I explained my condition thoroughly and respectfully. Dr. Benke immediately dismissed my concerns and told me bluntly: “I’ve never heard of that condition. I don’t know anyone who recognizes or treats it. You should just find someone else.” When I asked for help understanding my current symptoms or what steps I could take, he said: “I’m not going to treat you. I won’t review your results. If you insist on getting an MRI, I can order it, but your insurance will probably deny it since you don’t have any specific… incident.” He offered no examination, no questions, no curiosity, and no referrals—only a very clear message that he wanted me out of the room. I came in seeking thoughtful evaluation and left feeling completely invalidated. I don’t expect every physician to be an expert in rare conditions—but I do expect basic professionalism, medical listening, and human decency. I received none of those here.

Run away do not go to this doctor. As I am writing this I have been to the er twice bleeding for 3 days from the knee surgery dr. Benke did. Awful. No communication no ability to do a knee surgery correctly a true lousy doctor. Same on the state of nj for allowing him to practice health.
