Dr. Michael Magdy Bottros, MD

I am very surprised by my visit with Dr. Bottros. I wasn't expecting much. I have been dealing with right leg pain for years and no one could find a cause. Dr. Bottros examined me and noted that my left foot was weaker than my right foot and that I was overcompensating with right leg causing me my pain. No one has ever explained this to me. I am now starting PT with this and may undergo a procedure if my leg does not improve. I am really impressed by his thoroughness!

Good bedside manner but his thought process is very flawed. Misdiagnosed me several times. He also gives way too much hands on time to the fellows. I’ve had needle catheters stuck in me, injuries, and bad bruising from the mess ups of the fellows. The office is also horrible. I mean terrible. Medication refills take weeks. No one calls you back. The doctor says one thing, the nurses then deny care. One nurse didn’t even know what a medrol dose pack is or how it works. If you are in awful pain you don’t want to deal with incompetent staff on top of all the other issues with the fellows and doctor. The bar is sadly very low for good pain management care, so if you see him and he’s nice then it’s like wow amazing! But, despite that he’s a nice guy I still can’t recommend him because he doesn’t make appropriate choices for multifaceted pain (and causes more problems with the choices of treatment). Definitely would not recommend to anyone.

I have seen a number of pain doctors and spine surgeons for the last 5 years. A friend mentioned that Dr. Bottros recently joined USC and within a few minutes of telling him my story, he thought I had thoracic outlet syndrome. After a test block, I had pain relief for the first time in 5 years. And he is so kind! It’s rare to find such a good doctor these days.

Dr. Bottros has been my pain management doctor for several years now and has been amazing. He was able to bring my pain down to a manageable level after years of suffering. I had seen several people before him and was unsuccessful, however he spent a considerable amount of time trying to find the source of my pain (occipital neuralgia). I had previously been on a number of medications to help control this, and now I am on none! I come in for an injection once very 6 months or so that has taken care of my pain considerably. I have been able to finish my studies and am now working. I am so sorry to see him leave Wash U, but I heard he is going to Los Angeles, I think USC. They are lucky to have him.

Dr. Bottros is amazing! He is professional, compassionate, down to earth and actually takes the time to listen - a very rare combination in the medical field these days.

Amazing person from the first visit. I have been seeing Dr. Bottros for about 2years now. He is compassionate,caring, andunderstanding. He is there for you. He hase been the only dr i have ever seen that comes in an LISTENS to you everything you have to say. He take the time to know you the patient. Even on my bad day he understood me. From each different procedure, pt, pain psychology, to my stimulator he has been WONDERFUL!!! If every Dr. had his bed side manor, his compassion, his patient care, his love for his career, there would be no bad doctors out there!!!

I have seen the doctor now for several years and he is helped me a lot with my pain management however everytime it comes time to refill my medication his staff is incompetent to refill the medication on time or even to the proper Pharmacy. When my medication isn't refilled properly I go through withdrawals and suffer from extreme pain. My prescriptions are not even for narcotics. Dr. B is wonderful but his staff can't even do their jobs correctly when they've been told exactly what to do.

He spent the most time with me a doctor has ever taken to discuss my symptoms. I appreciate that a lot.

I have had a lot of steroid injections in the past by other pain physicians, but they never helped. Dr. Bottros took the time to find out my sciatica was from piriformis syndrome.

Been dealing with pain for years. He implanted a spinal cord stimulator that has changed my life. I owe a lot to him.
