Dear Dr.Bouvet , I am writing to express my deepest gratitude for the life-saving care you provided during my total thyroidectomy on 4-6-2026 at 9:20am Hearing the words "thyroid cancer" was one of the scariest moments of my life. I felt overwhelmed and uncertain about my future, but from our first consultation, your expertise and calm reassurance gave me the strength to face the surgery. Because of your incredible skill, the cancer has been removed, and I have been given the greatest gift possible: a second chance at a healthy life. I am now focusing on my recovery and adjusting to my "new normal," but I do so with so much hope and joy knowing that the burden of cancer has been lifted. Thank you for not only being a brilliant surgeon but for treating me with such compassion and dignity throughout this journey. I had a parathyroidectomy performed by Dr. Bouvet last week. Surgery is never fun, but this was the best surgical experience I have ever had. The whole team including Pre-Op nursing (Erica), anesthesia (Emma) and post-op recovery (Cory) personnel were fantastic. I felt very comfortable & confident with Dr. Bouvet. I had very little post-op pain, and my scar line is barely visible. I highly recommend him and UCSD Health for anyway needing a surgical endocrinologist.

Upon being taken back to the office, I was assigned a medical assistant who barely spoke English, disregarded my medication list, and blew off my surgery list (despite being there for a surgical consult). When filling out my medical information on the computer, my wife and I had to literally point out where different items were on the screen and what to correctly put into my chart. I was already concerned by the time she left. I waited an hour and a half past my scheduled appointment time to see Dr. Bouvet. When he arrived, he went straight from a very brief introduction to telling me to "lift your shirt so I can see your belly." There was no question of what my symptoms or experience has been, no asking what my concerns were, he just looked me up and down and demanded to see my body. Immediately upon me lifting my shirt, his response was to huff and go into telling me that he was going to have to schedule me to see Dr. Horgan and Jill Fisher to go on a liquid diet to lose weight… before he could perform surgery on me. For context, I wear a men's XL. I tried to ask for a timeline for all of this as I have now ended up in the ER twice for my symptoms at life threatening low potassium levels, and was told it depends on my "weightloss, and it could be months, maybe by the end of the year." I tried to explain how much this issue is affecting my life, including leaving me unable to work, and my concerns were ignored. All he cared about was my weight. At one point, he even asked what my "ideal body weight" was and wanted me to lose over 60lbs before deferring that I could "meet them halfway" through use of a liquid diet. The medical issue I am suffering from literally causes weight gain and requires that I have a high potassium/low sodium diet, something difficult to achieve working through liquids alone and totally disapproved of my my main doctor. After he left the room, my wife asked the nurse to see an office manager, as I was absolutely distraught and horrified at the treatment I had just received. She agreed to go get one, but instead of a manager coming in, Dr. Bouvet stormed in trying to talk over me about my own issues. I tried to advocate for myself and once again explained how much this has all been affecting my life and that how disappointed I was in the appointment as I did not feel heard and had had to wait a substantial amount of time and even pay for parking, and all he could focus on was offering me a parking voucher. There was no acknowledgement of my pain, experiences, or distress. There was no apology beyond offering parking vouchers. At this point I felt absolutely cornered by this man who had not only come in himself, but had brought in the nurse assistant AND a medical student! I told them I would not tolerate this treatment and left the room. Once outside the Bamboo center, my wife tried to get assistance for use to speak to a higher authority in the building. The woman at the front desk supposedly tried, but somehow could not get a hold of anyone except the nurse manager we were originally told we could speak to. She had no answers other than taking down my information and telling me me would look for someone else who could care for me and she would call me back. I have yet to hear anything. In fact, instead of hearing from her I only received a voice-mail from Dr. Bouvet, once again dismissing my concerns and distress and telling he had put through the referral for Dr. Horgan. At this point I do not feel safe seeing this man awake, even less if I am to be under anesthesia. He does not have my best interest at heart and is not someone I would trust for any part of my care. Instead, he has repeatedly tried to speak to me after I had already told himself and the other medical providers that I do not want his care.

Volvulus- Blocking my intestine and obstruction of blood flow. and my Thyroid Gland disorders Dr. Michael Bouvet, MD is now my go to surgeon. His bed side manner style is excellent, His communication is excellent, His memory is excellent. Knowing he will be in the surgery room with me makes me feel at ease. Dr. Bouvet makes me comfortable, through meeting me at eye level, smiling and keeping me calm, making it easier to get a feeling of safety. +A for gentleness and courtesy. Dr. Bouvet performed a parathyroidectomy on me with excellent results. Virtually no pain and a quick recovery. Dr. Bouvet is very personable and caring. I highly recommend Dr. Bouvet.

Dr. Bouvet was caring and excellent. I had parathyroid surgery and the scar on my neck is hardly noticeable. It is scary to have someone cut into your neck and I was fortunate to have Dr. Bouvet as my surgeon.

My wife and myself are so glad he is our surgeon as we have left 2 others hospitals that would have shortened my life from there approach on my thyroid cancer. He totally goes after it even if you don't like what you you hear, after all, this is my only life and we all want the full trip. Not only is he someone I trust with his unbelievable surgical skills but he really cares. I have a drainage tube in place after the procedure that was clear but showed discoloring after I would eat while in the hospital recovering. He personally came to my room in between surgeries to address my concern. When he showed I thought it was Saint Peter who showed up waiting for Jesus right behind him. What an indication of a real human who being caring for his patience. Dr Bouvet, I don't know how to thank you for your unearthly caring during my stay. You have made my experience with cancer one that I am now ready to tackle as you do everyday because of your skills and thoughtfulness of each your patients.… Thank you so much as well as your staff. This Doctor was the first one to really spend time with me and give me hope to take care of my problem. He took out 2 of my 4 parathyroid glands and I was feeling better right away.

I am 26 and was diagnosed with Thyroid Cancer. I spent months researching surgeons with expertise in Thyroidectomy surgery including Cancer Centers such as MD Anderson and decided to stay in San Diego and go with Dr. Bouvet. Dr. Bouvet has taken the time to speak with me repeatedly via phone, email and in person over the past month to prepare me for the surgery and reassure me that I was doing the right thing by going with a total thyroidectomy. Dr. Bouvet has also been very caring and quick to respond to my concerns after surgery. It is so rare that the surgeon himself will take the time out of his busy day to personally respond when you contact him.I would absolutely recommend Dr. Bouvet to anyone needing an Endocrine or General Surgeon.
