In addition, he is a fellowship-trained glaucoma specialist. Dr. Caplan is known locally and nationally as a leading ophthalmic surgeon and Houston LASIK expert. He has performed over 15,000 refractive procedures and has been recognized by VISX as one of the top 100 refractive surgeons in the country. Dr. Caplan offers the most advanced options for refractive surgery candidates, including procedures such as conductive keratoplasty and refractive lensectomies. He has served as an investigator in several nationwide studies evaluating implantable contact lenses, new technologies for cataract surgery and multi-focal lens implants. He is a founder and Medical Director of Houston’s Caplan Surgery Center, which …provides state-of-the-art outpatient eye surgery in a caring, convenient setting for patients and their families. As former president of the Houston Ophthalmological Society, Dr. Caplan has been responsible for city-wide leadership and continuing education for ophthalmologists in the greater Houston area. He has served on the society’s Executive Committee for eight years. Dr. Caplan is also an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, the International Society of Refractive Surgery and the Society for Excellence in Eye Care. Dr. Caplan has traveled internationally on mission trips to remote areas to provide eye care to those in need. A long-time Texan, Dr. Caplan is a Phi Beta Kappa honor graduate of The University of Texas at Austin. After graduating from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Dr. Caplan completed an ophthalmology residency at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas and a prestigious glaucoma fellowship at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia.
