Dr. Michael Patten Carroll, MD

Easy to talk to. Explained my surgery on plain English and did a wonderful job

Dr Carroll is direct and informative. When I had my gall bladder removed the surgeon was concerned with my liver. My Family went with me to meet with Dr Carroll. He explained what was happening and how he recommended we approach the care. He makes me feel comfortable in the approach and helped me not over-react. He will take time answering all your questions with facts. He keeps you grounded on what is going on in your body so you feel part of the treatment plan.

My youngest daughter was diagnosed with NHL. Her treatments under Dr. Carroll have been outstanding. Dr. Carroll is a no nonsense practitioner and does in fact make the effort to connect with his patients. His staff, Baljeet and Antonio go beyond the call of duty. We rate them all far above average and would without hesitation recommend Dr. Carroll and his staff to others should the need present itself.

Horrible doctor. Missed very important cancer diagnosis. Gave medications not consistent with drug manufacturer label that likely caused severe damage. He then said my dad was in remission when he wasn't (didn't give him appropriate diagnostics to determine this). Then he lied about extent/seriousness of diagnosis (we knew because other specialist was telling us the truth). Personality of a doorknob. Huge ego. Called my dad, his patient, a "liar" when my dad was lying in a hospital bed half dead after Carroll misdiagnosed him. Carroll clearly felt justified in calling my dad a "liar" because my dad said he remembered telling Carroll of a new symptom earlier that day and Carroll said he didn't remember that. He provides minimal info to patients. Terrible bedside manner. After he missed a cancer diagnosis, he refused to meet with family to discuss current condition and treatment options (while patient was in hospital). Many medical support staff who work with Carroll do not have… good things to say about him. I also, very coincidentally, talked to someone who worked in same dept as him in oncology in another state who also speaks horribly of Dr. Carroll and his practices.

If you are searching for a Doctor that is caring, understanding has a great bedside manner, then this Doctor is not for you. What you will get is a Doctor with a monotone voice that comes across like a recording. He has said the same thing over and over and has forgotten how to speak to a patient. He will give you the information he believes you should have and nothing more. My husband died in his care and it was the worst experience of my life, thanks to Dr. Carroll and his lack of communication and compassion. My husband was the second patient to die in his care within a month. Look else where for care if you treasure your loved one!

Dr. Michael P. Carroll at Sutter Cancer Center in Sacramento CA is an outstanding medical professional. He is exceptionally knowledgeable about "blood" cancers and constantly reviews the latest research. In addition, he is often involved at some level in cutting-edge research and methods. He is able to use his knowledge and extensive experience to give his patients the best care possible at any level. He takes all the time that is necessary to answer any question and will explain your diagnosis and treatment in full detail. Dr. Carroll never rushes you through an appointment or procedure and makes you feel that you are his most important patient. He leads or is involved in clinical trials for the latest treatments and will do his best to include you in a trial if you are interested. If not interested, he will use the most appropriate traditional treatment for your disease. I feel that I am very fortunate to have Dr. Carroll as my oncologist and highly recommend to anyone that… has a cancer that is in his area of expertise.
