Dr. Michael James Downing, MD

Dr. Downing gives sound medical information. He is compassionate and honest. It must be difficult to be compassionate in his field, but really does listen and try to make sense of what he is hearing. I really think he is a good human being and physician. I had a very, very bad experience with a psychiatrist who was extremely highly recommended, so it is relieving to find a physician of integrity that I can trust.

Nothing but good experiences with this physician. He gives good sound advice and listens with compassion.

I am looking for a book titled Spring Forward By Michael Downing

Dr. Downing was calm, respectful,, and reserved. I felt he was listening to me although he asked very few questions. He answered every question I asked and the he was only about 20 late/wait time. BUT, his office is a creepy, claustrophobic dump. His office is very small but it seems to be used as furniture storage. He has a table used as a desk, 4 chairs that face each other, with a kind of end table in the middle, a love seat, and another kind of personal desk, and assorted seats. The walls are partially decorated and two of the "art" pieces are absolutely creepy...like maybe he was trying to set you intentionally ill at ease. Then at last, after weaved my way into a chair, ignored the art staring at me, all I could see was the total and complete disorganization of this guy. There was paper everywhere, stacks of it on his desk and all over the floor. Everything was in dissaray. He couldn't find the papers he was looking for nor his prescription pad. Plus there was trash on the… floor...like he was too lazy to pick it up and put it in the trash can. The reason I write this is that no matter how much I liked Dr. Downing, his office made my teeth itch. He should try to make an environment that is comforting for his patients instead of freak show of an office he has now. No thanks.

He is one of the smartest psychiatrists I have ever dealt with. His product knowledge of medications, their side effects, and the way the meds work is unparalled. His care and concern for his patients both in his research as well as private practice is above and beyond anyone else I have worked with. His only down side is that he wears ties from The Gap.
