Dr. Michael Andrew Gainer, MD

I made an appointment with Dr. Gainer for a painful bump on my right wrist. As soon as the nurse called me she told me that I had to take x-rays before I could see the doctor. Then Dr. Gainer came in and took a really quick look at my wrist (1 minute) and told me that there was nothing that he could do for me unless I wanted to have surgery. He didn't give me any alternative solutions. He didn't even talk about the x-rays that they made me do. If I'm going to pay for the x-rays then I want to see them and have the doctor go over them. This was the worst exeperience of my life with a doctor! 100% waste of my time and money. I found out my info about my wrist online then I did from Dr. Gainer. Honestly, there are so many doctors out there DO NOT see this doctor. He doesn't take his time and really doesn't care to help. I think he's just there to collect his huge paycheck. I will be telling everyone I can about me horrible experience with Dr Gainer at Iowa Ortho.

Was referred by both primary care doctor and physical therapist after a car accident. Dr Ganier spent less then a minute with me. Bent my fingers, said I had arthritis, and said "why are you here?" Said to do exercises but would not give any recommendations when I ask for suggestions. Felt like I was wasting his time. It was a total waste of my time!!!

From the time we came in the door, to the time we left we were shown extreme courtesy, explained procedures clearly, with a very professional staff.

I cannot say enough great things about Dr. Gainer and his team.

Doctor Gainer did the surgery on my hand for trigger finger. As with any work comp injury, you have to jump through their hoops! I had to endure a painful cortisone shot as first step in solving this problem then when this didn’t work onto a surgical procedure to fix it. If you want a doctor who is going to give it to you “straight” then doctor Gainer is your man. If you want to be treated with warm fuzzies, then don’t go to him. I personally like to be given it “straight” as I know where I stand!

I went to see this specialist today because of trigger finger from work. I explained to him that I had been working with restrictions at work and that I would not allow them to give me a cortisone shot, because of the likelihood side affects. This doctor sent me back to work with no restrictions andsaid if the pain gets to much for me to handle and I decide to take the cortisone shot come back and see him. WHAT!!!! Who bullies their patients into making the decisions they don’t want to make????

My 'follow up' visit he didn't even look at my injured finger. He quickly gave me verbal instructions on 'care', I asked if he could please write down those instructions , he said no. I said 'what'? Im not going to remember this all. He said I "can come back in 2 weeks and he could tell me again". Ummm, what the heck?? Worst interaction I've ever experienced. That visit was completely unnecessary and an absolute joke.

Dr Gainer was clear, concise and no-nonsense about how best to treat and recover from my broken elbow. He's not going to coddle you or tell you what you want to hear if it's going to get in the way of your healing and recovery. Would go to him again, most definitely.

Very condescending. If you have another choice, take it. He is the stereotype in flesh.

Lacked compassion while dealing with me after my accident. Blamed other physicians/trauma surgeons for a poor orthopaedic outcome.
