Dr. Michael Joseph Horwath, MD

I had thyroid cancer in 2000 and have been seeing Dr. Horwath since that time, with no issues until today. I work for the federal government and serve abroad and have for most of the last 15 years. This has never been a problem as I have seen Dr. Horwath on average of once a year. On a few occasions, however, I only saw him once every couple of years due to my deployments. This has never been a problem. I am currently abroad again and returned to Virginia for a two week training course and forgot my medicine at home. I reached out to Dr. Horwath’s office and learned that they rejected my request for emergency medications as I have not seen Dr. Horwath in almost two years. As he is my only Doctor right now, I have no way of getting my medication until I return home. His nurse, Priscilla requested I go to Urgent Care and see if they will help me. I can’t believe this is how he is treating me after 17 plus years of working with him. I will definitely be looking for a more caring… endocrinologist upon my return to the US from serving abroad. Unbelievable.

Doctor Horwath is unique in that he knows what he'd doing, he can explain it in plan english and he takes the time to make sure the messsage is understood. I highly recommend him

This Dr. is the best we ever had.He talks WITH us ...not AT us.Always wants to explain conditions and make sure we were comfortable with them.Always decides on the correct testing that is needed.Never is in a hurry to get us out of his office...always takes the time needed...which is the important for every patient...like us.

I love Dr. Horwath just wish he would slow down during visits. Leaves you feeling rushed, hurried and wondering if he left something out. Would be awesome if receptionists would greet you with a smile and a hello and make you feel welcome there when you walk in. When I call the office the staff is much more pleasant. Good doctor just needs to stop and smell the roses. Worry about him being in such a rush. He is a super guy!

While it is true that he stays up on current research, he doesn't seem to want to believe anything not pushed by a drug company. He does not really understand how diet works in people with diabetes, and will argue with you about it (even when you are getting results not seen with his advice). That said, he doesn't play games and will not sugar coat what he believes to be the truth, and I appreciate his honesty. Just need a doc who can think outside the prescription bottle!

Exceptional doctor. Takes time explaining everything. Best doctor I have had dealing with type 1 diabetes.

I have a reare genetic disorder, Homocystinuria. Dr. Horwath is very knowledgeable , compassionate and actually takes an interest in my health issues. This indicates to me that he treats all his patients the same. The staff is curteous. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED !

Dr Horwath is treating me post removal of my thyroid for cancer. He is so caring and so compassionate. He is very well read and current on the latest treatment options. He knows his stuff. I do wish he would slow down a little bit, but he does stop to answer any specific questions I have. I feel very cared for when I see him. I highly recommend him.
