Dr. Michael Robert Marvin, MD

Michael Marvin, MD, FACS, is a transplant and hepatobiliary surgeon specializing in liver and kidney transplantation as well as the removal of kidneys from living donors. He performs a variety of minimally invasive and open surgical procedures for conditions affecting the liver including managing liver tumors and the repair of bile duct injuries.Dr. Marvin currently leads the liver and kidney transplant program at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, where he oversees his patients' care before and after surgery. Under his leadership, the transplant program has grown rapidly, and has expanded the number of insurance companies that recognize Geisinger as a Transplant Center of Excellence (e.g. Aetna and Optum). He completed his residency in general surgery and a fellowship in transplant and hepatobiliary surgery, both at Columbia University Irving Medical Center, also in New York.Dr. Marvin has published more than 60 papers and book chapters and serves on the review boards for leading journals in surgery and transplantation. He serves as clinical professor of surgery at the Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine in Scranton.Dr. Marvin has held many leadership positions in national societies including the American Society of Transplant Surgeons, United Network for Organ Sharing and American Society of Transplantation, among others. He is also an active member of the American College of Surgeons.
