Dr. Michael Lynn Mcclelland Jr, MD

My urologist Dr. McClelland has shepherded me through a bladder cancer diagnosis in 2016 and its complications, collaborating with my oncologist and UT Health Center surgeon-San Antonio. He has both wisdom and patience, and his unhurried communication skills are remarkable in today's medical marketplace. His nurse Sharon possesses saintly kindness in promptly responding to messages and patient concerns.

At age 71 in good health, I have known many physicians, and urologist Dr. Michael McLelland ranks at the top for compassion, competence, and his genuine humanity. During my self-diagnosis of bladder cancer, he guided me thoroughly and patiently through the process and then sat with me and my husband to give the good news: no malignancy. He now handles my routine aging woman urology issues...with kindness and good humor. His nursing staff is remarkably efficient and personable.

I recently had to undergo an orchiectomy, which can be a traumatic experience (physically & emotionally), but Dr. McClelland made sure it was not. In fact, it was not a big deal at all, thanks to his care. He is straight and to the point, but also caring and understanding. He took time to actually call me personally on several occasions, which is rare these days. He performed the surgery masterfully, and I am healed and good to go (luckily, the rare form of tumor I had was not cancerous). I should also mention that his nurse, Sharon, is excellent. I had so many questions over a course of a few weeks and she answered every single one of them, calling me back the same day I called countless times. When you are speaking to either Dr. McClelland or Sharon, in person or over the phone, you never feel rushed; on the contrary, you feel like they are giving you their full time and undivided attention. When answering questions during or after examinations, Dr. McClelland makes a point of asking… if I have any more questions after each question is answered, telling me that he is willing to stay a few extra minutes to ensure that nothing is up in the air and all of my anxieties are put to rest. There is only one bad thing about having Dr. McClelland as your Urologist, and that is the front desk staff -- they are not friendly in the least. In addition, wait times have been ridiculous (50+ minutes) the last two times I visited, and neither time was I told about an extended wait from the staff. In fact, the second time, I even asked the receptionist if there would be an extended wait, and she said they were not behind at all, but despite that, I still waited almost an hour. I am guessing this is because, as I said before, Dr. McClelland and Sharon never rush you out the door; they always take the time necessary to do a thorough job. So it's worth the wait.

Dr McClelland is treating my kidney cancer and just meeting him was a pleasure. His professionalism is tops though he shows that he cares too. Got me in surgery within a week of diagnoses.
