Dr. Michael P Mcgurren, MD

By far the worst experience I've ever had in any service ever. Back story: I had gone to the ER at PSL for chest pains (I'm 19) and had tests run. D-dimer was fairly high so they scanned my lungs for a clot. Nothing found but an enlarged stomach. While I was there, the nurse ruptured my vain and told me it was fine and kept pushing the needle further in. Needless to say, a week and a half later I had a blood clot and swollen vein (in the one he ruptured). I went back to the ER and they treated me for the superficial clot. After two days I went to my doctor for a check up on the clot. She recommend the hospital as I had lost feeling in the right half of my body. This is where McGurren comes in. I get to the hospital, lower right arm and leg totally cold and numb with various shooting pains. My right arm (clot) was on fire and my neck was under intense pressure. He asked me if I took any medications and made I snide comment when I said vyvanse for ADHD. He acted like he was hot… youknowwhat, and soley used medical terms to his PA, thinking I didn't understand. He told me my symptoms were purely neurological, despite the giant bruises around the arteries in my right leg. He did a ultrasound on the interior of my leg (where there were NO bruises) and a CAT scan of my head. He then proceeded to have the same nurse shoot my up with an IV, which caused my arm to be in extreme pain. My mom asked 4 different nurses and PA's to remove it but McGurren refused. It got to the point in which I was screaming in hysterics because it hurt so badly, and he told me taking it out wouldn't allow him to give me drugs (mind you he was talking to me like I was 5). I yelled at him to take it out, and he told me that was uncalled for. 35 minutes after asking the first time to take it out, the nurse came and took it out. Turns it I got another clot because the moron was too lazy to look at my chart and see that I had high RBC, HGB, and HCT, signs of polycythemia, which is a rare blood cancer/disorder. He's lazy. Might as well be a janitor with a fake degree. Be smart and ask for another doc.

I was very dissatisfied he did not even show me the courtesy of coming in the room to talk to me about my husbands condition. He was very arrogant . I would not recommend him to a friend or family member. His bedside manner is zero. He should have called in a specialist. My husband had to suffer the weekend .

I encountered Dr. McGurren as a parient at Denver's PSL ER 2013. He was thoughtful, understanding and kind. He did a round of tests to be sure my issue wasn't something more serious, and got me on my way home. Going to the ER isn't something you plan on, but McGurren made enough of an impression that when I received the hospital bill with his name, I wanted to take the time to write this.
