Dr. Michael Wells Meriwether

I met Dr. Meriweather in 1978 when I was a lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps and he was a U.S. Navy surgeon assigned to the Bethesda Naval Hospital in Maryland. Dr. Meriweather performed spinal surgery on me because of a spinal herniated disc. Dr. Meriweather was an outstanding surgeon and repaired my spine so that I could continue with my active lifestyle. Many years have passed and I have often wanted to contact him to express my gratitude for repairing my lower spine so that I could live a normal life and achieve all of my goals. I have recently retired and continue to have an active life due mostly to his expertise in spinal surgery. Hopefully, someday I will be able to talk to Dr. Meriweather and thank him directly. He is a four star and always be in my book!!

By 1993, after some years of worsening back problems and constant visits to the chiropractor, I had a lower back problem and, at that time, Harley Street surgeons would not operate on me. Michael Meriwether was recommended to me whilst I still resided in the UK. He examined me and arranged for me to be admitted to Doctors' Hospital about three weeks later. He carried out the operation fusing, from my recollection, three vertebrae in the lower back. He told me afterward that he had never seen such a mess in someone so young! Practising in Sarasota he was used to those in the 70+ age bracket; which of course I now inhabit! Before the operation I used a walking stick; now I play tennis as often as I can.
