Dr. Michael Jon Mufson, MD

I'm so shocked to see so many reviews describing the same disturbing behavior I experienced from this doctor. I talked to him for a very short evaluation, and then he wrote down many misleading statements in my health record that unfairly make me look like an unstable, malingering patient. Then wrote a very bizarre differential diagnosis full of stigmatizing disorders that cannot be diagnosed from a single short evaluation of a patient in distress. Also included outdated psychiatric terms. I think he might as well have just written "hysterical woman" in my chart. I think he's an old misogynist and has a weird obsession with personality disorders. I'm horrified to see so many reviews describing such similar experiences as mine and yet this man is still allowed to see patients. Stay away.

Horrible. This doctor is abusively assumptive, made false and misleading statements about me in his report, and suggested that I be evaluated for personality disorders or a “character” disorder, and that the only treatment that has ever worked well for my ADHD be dramatically reduced, completely discounting the evidence of how well it has worked for me. I came to him for quality medical advice, and I received a careless, nonsensical recommendation that I enter rehab, (because he felt my Dexedrine dose was too high), and that I be evaluated by some know-nothing psychologist for a personality disorder that no one before or since has ever suspected. Total waste of time. Thankfully my GP agreed that his report, (based only on him reading my medical records, never having met me), didn’t make any sense, or he might have taken away the only treatment that has ever allowed me to function well.

Don’t see under any circumstances!!! Really rude and cold, doesn’t listen at all. The worst experience I’ve ever had with a Doctor. Extremely unprofessional, awkward, and rude on telehealth. Judt don’t do it.

Probably good at what he does and seems to really enjoy the diagnostic side. However, labels doesn’t matter much if there isn’t a detailed plan or team that can act on them.

I was treated by Dr Mufson a number of years ago. My depression was “cured.” Yes I take maintenance medication but I have not had a day of depression since my treatment with him. He is hands down the best that Boston offers. You should consider yourself truly fortunate if you get the opportunity to be treated by him. He’s a lifesaver!!

Dr. Mufson unjustifiably uses the labels psychologically regressive state, passive-aggressive, dependent on others and overwhelmingly claims pre-existing psychiatric history even where there is none. Stay away from him! Uses collusion for persuasion. Very disturbing he is a psychiatrist, especially a forsenic psychiatrist. The public is best served being made aware of is conduct.

Dr. Mufson use to work at the west Roxbury VA hospital where i don't think he works any longer but one thing i would like to say about him is that he is one of the most knowledgeable and understanding physicians I have ever met or had the pleasure to work with. He cares for his patients and his entire team and his knowledge of medicine, neurology and psychiatry combined with his ability to work out pharmacological regimens that work for just about every patient that walks in the door is what makes him one of the if not the best psychiatrist in Boston. Hes a true physician and an academic which is what makes him relentless in his effort to help.
